Angry

Do u like the music they play at your gym???

most of it is ok at the goodlife i go to, but every 3rd or 4th song is either slow or really really terrible, backstreet boys for example...

who the hell is managing this crap? it totally throws off my attitude to attack the weight and takes away from my intensity when they play that junk!!!

Thumbs up

Yes I do. I work out at the Fire station or at home. Besides I run the gym at the station.

Well what you have to understand is that for one, we can't please everyone. If we play Metalica we'll piss off some people. If we play Madonna we'll piss off the other group. There's just no winning.

What we do is change the stations on different shifts, and we try to NOT let the front desk staff pick and choose. This isn't about playing music they like afterall.

Anyway, the crowds vary depending on what time of day. The early morning crowd is usually babyboomer executives. The mid-morning crowd is the time moms come in. Lunchtime gets the weekend warriors. And in the evenings, usually the heavy hitters come in.

How would you possibly cater to all this variety with any one station or mix? You just can't.

The best thing we can do is to pick something that is more mainstream and middle of the line. Extremes in any direction will only appeal to the fringe few.

It's like a cost benefit analysis....you just play the odds and run with whatever the largest return is. The biggest crowd usually dictates the forum.

We do.

The mom's that work out at 9am,...they come in crowds, and they change the station TO these talk shows.... then the crowd that comes in right AFTER lunch,...they are also women, usually middle-age, who want to get on the treadmill, to walk, to socialize with their other female friends, and watch soap operas.

Odd thing is, you can still hear the music in the background....

Its not to bad considering I usually get a pretty equal say in the matter (w/ the coaches and few other well respected athletes. We usually end up w/ rap, which is ok for the most part.

I absolutely love the music they play at my gym. It's always some aggressive stomp-a-hilbilly's-head-into-the-curb kinda jammin slammin rock. Of course, I guess it helps that I play all my own music and workout in my basement. Thank god I don't have to hear Justin or Britney while I'm trying to bench.
