Since the other two guys are dead...wouldn't that make him the best lyricist today? Not that I agree with the statement at all but when the 'other two' supposedly best are dead...that leaves one. Personally, I don't think rap has 'the best' lyricists anyway although he is a little different than his peers.

Lets not forget Big L, hes often overlooked cuz he was never all that mainstream but some of his freestyles were absolutely insane.

Thanks for clarifying that for me. I should have said "to date" or in the hip hop world or something. Oh well.

THANK YOU. his 7 minute freestyle with Jay-Z... jesus fkn christ. i've only heard like one or two freestyle's better than Big L's.
Eminem is, right now, the most talented rapper\lyricist alive. Nas is second. Don't get me started on Nas though, as much talent as he has and as much as i love him, his massive ego really holds him back from what he's capable of. and, i know most of you are gonna crucify me for saying this, but lyrically i think eminem is, song for song, better than tupac (and most def. biggie). if biggie hadn't died, i don't see him as being remembered as the #2 of all time behind pac in the general consensus. yes, tupac most definitely had some of the greatest rap songs ever, but he also had a lot of songs that sucked. eminem really doesn't HAVE that many songs that aren't good, i mean if you buy an eminem cd, like 90% of the songs are gonna be worth listening to. pac is the best rapper of all time in my opinion, because he just brought more emotion, honesty, and a deeper look into himself, life, and the struggles black people go through than anybody. i mean rap at tupac's time was mainly **** about killing people, doing drugs, and getting laid. then out of nowhere, pac comes out about life, death, God, racial issues, many things that nobody had brought out before. i don't think anyone will ever take over his spot as the icon of hip hop.
If you've haven't heard any of the more underground stuff eminem has done since his last album has come out... just be prepared for one of the best rap albums ever when his next solo album drops (within the next year i think?) his flow is just absolutely f***ing ridiculous, and it keeps getting better. he's just unreal now, and he's not showing any signs of stopping. i really, honestly think that by the time he's done he should be remembered as the best lyricist ever.

Mna that's awesome because I'm rarely on any board where Big l gets mentioned as one of the best lyricists and it's nice to hear that someone is listneing to him besides me!
The part where you lost me is when you said Eminem is better that Pac song for song but later on you said that Pac is the best rapper of all time. Did I miss something . . .

I can honestly say that Eminem is the worst singer/rapper ever. I think I hate him more than I hate most people, and I hate a lot of people

I get your deal but my the whole glass empty routine has been done you might want to try an original approach and I'm asking you what DO you like?
I think the problem with rap music is the fact that people use these rappers as hero's and plce them on this pedistile and expect them to be role models when actually all they are tryin to do is the same thing I am . . . .make a dollar out of .15$

Eminem the best lyricist of all time? There are many other people out there that write much more meaningful, creatively verbose songs.
He is talented though, don't get me wrong - i have 2 of his cd's. I would say that his talent lies in a different area like someone else has said, his style - how many of his songs basically tell a different story, i like the narration that most of his songs have. He still definetely is my favorite rapper, but as far as being the most musically inclined or the greatest lyricist, i don't think so.
