HDTV questions?

We just got a new Sony Wega 42" 3LCD Hi-Def TV a few days ago. The companion Sony DVD player with 1080 HD upconversion should be delivered by UPS this afternoon. The TV & DVD player are being integrated into my home theater setup. I'm getting HD programming only through off-air broadcasts right now. I'm wondering; have any other forum members have made the step to HDTV and can they offer any suggestions or tips to enhance our viewing, such as what programs are really worth watching in HD and which are so-so? It seems the original big 3 networks only broadcast some programming in HD. I haven't seen Fox offer anything in HD yet, although the local broadcast is digital. Right now, we are watching a lot of PBS and having fun rewatching all our DVD's on the new big screen. I had the foresight to buy only widescreen versions of all our DVD's ever since we started buying DVDs a few years ago.

How about Direct TV? Their HD programming package is not cheap. Is it worth it? Anyone getting it?
