How do I get hold of comics CHEAP??

Ahm I comics fan, I'd like to read older issues like from 90s 80s etc. How can I get past issues for like 1-2bucks? Or even just read them?
There is the "essential" black &white collection which is awesome, marvel also published another 2 xmen b&w collection(smaller sized) about 2 years ago. Any rumours of DC comics doing the same for batman/superman?

The libraries near me have a few comic books, but they don't get new ones very often so I go every year or so and read the new stuff.

Used book stores, flea markets, and garage sales can be gold mines for good comics to read (but not in collectable shape). Sometimes comic shops have good comics in lousy condition for sale cheaply. It's just a matter of spending time looking for the deals .

I browsed thru a comic store recently, the problem is stories range over many comics in sequence, and its hard to find comics in sequence
The marvel "essential" black and white collection is awesome, I wish DC wood publish something similar. There has GOT to be a market for them!

it might sound pretty obvious, but needed to be mentioned just in case...ebay? and any other auction-based websites.

I pay 85 a year for fire insurance on my comics...altho they are prolly older than you are looking for...got the first 60 of xfactor, both secret wars, etc...
best way is to buy peoples collections on ebay or stuff like that...
that or if u can find a big comic bok store in your area...those are tough to come buy

I started out by going to collection parties at local hotels and ripping the unknowingly college kids off their stuff by saving a buck here and there

I've always found some of the cheapest buys at garage sales and the like. If you buy comics from a store or from active collectors, they always want to charge decent prices. But... if you buy from an ex-collector who hasn't kept up with the prices, or they're selling the whole box for a price, that's where you get some steals.

DC has done a bunch of collected works volumes. I worked on several of them. They had lost the original art for most of the stuff, so what we had to do was scan the printed comic book. strip out the color, clean up and reconstruct the art, and recolor it. Lots of work, lots of fun.
