Anything new that is mainstream I right off as crap...most of the time before i even hear it. Given it too many chances and I always end up disappointed.

Metallica and system of a down arn't even the same style. Its tough to call it with greenday and clash but i think even those two are worlds apart. Dont know what busted is and no one in pop is better than mista jeffeson.

Never heard of Starsailor or the Clash. Greenday is awesome though, and System and Metallica are 2 of my favorite bands and (IMO) cannot be compared. However, if I had to choose, I would choose Metallica. No idea what busted is and Michael Jackson has some good tunes, but I would say yes, people are better than him.

i only chose those as examples my point is that music seems to have lost the ability to harness talent and is instead failing at trying to produce talent from talentless sources. and then they take bands like starsailor and system and try to reproduce the failures they created.

All in the eye of the beholder. What you perceive as lack of talent some might not, and vice versa. Everyone's got an opinion though

You're absolutely right...Talent is no longer the objective. Image was found to be just as effective in selling records as talent... The music industry went with image, cuz it's easier to find. People who play music understand it best. They know what it takes to produce the sound as far as talent goes.
Sure, music has it's appeal at the basic level...rhythym, tone, beat, bass, whatever...but this is all mainstream music has. Sometimes not even that. There is no depth, no uniqueness.
Where you find the best music and talent is in the ground level musicians who are struggling to be heard. They have the drive and the commitment to doing their best. They also do not have distractions like limos, babes, cash, etc... Their playtime is spent making music.

Its a figure of speech. Who cares which band is getting acknowledged, I just listen to what sounds good to me.

You are dying a death here. Music now is in its best era since the 65-75 era. You are lucky you didnt grow up in the 80's. The 80's were so bad its unbelievabl. The late 90s were bad aswell. Now, however is the beginning of a revolution in music. So many bands. Class bands. So many class bands that many of the class bands arent heard. All you need to do is look at the top 10 albums chart in Britain. 8 of them are indie bands. One hindrance to the music scene is the downloading of music, meaning not so many people are going out buying music, but hey, if it means you hear more music because of the fact you can get loads of music for free, even better. If you want a good radio station guys, listen to XFM. Non stop fantastic music. Go online, www.xfm.co.uk

It isnt repeating stuff from the late 60's. The Killers are nothing like the Kinks, The Bees are nothing like the Beatles, Kings of leon are nothing like King Crimson, Pink Grease are nothing like Pink Floyd.

If you think 80's music was bad, you must have been listening to top 40. Yeah, that stuff was bad. Some of the most innovative and experimental bands came out of the 80's if you bothered to look hard enough. Maybe not late 80's, but certainly early 80's and even late 70's. There's stuff coming out now that is good, but it still has roots in early 80's influence, no doubt.
