Music Favorites

Just to display a bit of eccentricity, diversity, and my appreciation for a wide variety of music,....what do you guys think of these clips?

YouTube - Tears - Ca Plane Pour Moi

(I'm French, -- my first language,....and German, -- also spoken before English),...so don't shoot me. But even if you don't like this song (it's NOT by the original Plastiks, but by Tears, called Ca Plane Pour Moi),...the original is way better, but this video has some suh-week lookin' eye candy!

YouTube - Seal - Get It Together

YouTube - Seal - Human Beings

This is SEAL, and another reason for my absence, following him around during the release of his latest album. This man has personally and privately touched my heart and helped heal me, in real life. I like his music, and he's a sincerely loving man which makes an impossible combination. But if it weren't for him, I'd actually have a pretty nasty health problem to contend with, that he helped me through.

YouTube - Metallica - One

This is ONE by Metallica. Even if you're not a Metallica fan, watch this clip. It uses clips of Johnny Got His Gun, and if you ever get the chance, watch this movie. It will either make you vomit, make you cry, wrench your gut, or make you angry. Possibly all of the above. Combine the emotions of this movie, the video (which they tracked down from obscurity), and the music... most people will probably be touched.

More Metallica, some for the visuals, some for the music, all for the love of the band:

YouTube - Metallica Until it sleeps

and,....

YouTube - metallica-st anger

(The above being one of my most favorites, ever!)

YouTube - Blind - Korn

KORN (Oooh, gotta love 'em!)

...and because I love Chester:

YouTube - Linkin Park - Bleed It Out

I just thought it would be interesting to share some music that we listen to and enjoy. I like so many different kinds of music that I'd be interested what everyone else listens to.....

EDIT: I should mention, some of these links above are best enjoyed if you have the patience to watch the whole video clip, not just make a judgment based on the first 30 seconds of music because most of my extremely brief music selection above was in part chosen because in addition to the songs (which I like) I think the videos are pretty neat to watch. Take a moment out of your life,....

I like them, but I do listen to almost everything.

You already know my musical preferences lean towards death metal and black metal even though I do listen to some of the 80's power ballads. I am the guy who shops for his and his kid's clothes at "Hot Topic", not the "cowboy store".

I must admit though, that my new favorite song is one that was sang to me just last week. When I heard it for the first time ever, it brought tears to my eyes. It is "You Are". Imagine that, a guy like me, dressed in all black...full goth...with an earring and long hair walking into Hot Topic today with a girl on his arm who has a Nashville recording contract...the same one who sang that one to me...I hope this one goes on her CD that she's recording this winter because she sings it way better than Jimmy Wayne ever could.

Yep, most of my "tendancies" go towards the dark as well. But I posted those songs just to share the, uhm,...."un-dark"....side of me (if that makes sense). I'll listen to classical and opera too (which can drive people about as bonkers as it does if I pop in Type-O, Ministry, KORN, Linkin Park, Disturbed).

Having cut an album (if that sentence right thar doesn't date me, I dunno what does!), I know the impact your own music can have on someone else is pretty powerful on both ends. If she brought you to tears, you can bet she, too, felt some special somethings. It's all good and when music is sung or performed privately (or even in a concert setting, I still remember the small venues we played at,...you make eye contact,....less for me though as a drummer, but still...), you get a pretty charged feedback.

It's just neat to hook up with other people who have a broad interest in music and aren't limited to just one style. I tend to think if they're even half as open minded about music, they might be open minded to other things too.

PS: When does your friend's CD drop, (officially, that is?) Anything she may have done we'd know or be familiar with?

Well I was ready to post, then I saw this below:

Gave it some thought, then decided to post anyway.

I am attracted to the music of instruments rather than lyrics and always get in trouble with my wife when she asks me "what do you think of the message in that song?".

We listen to different jukeboxes, but I did semi-enjoy what you posted. Thanks for taking the time to share.

As a drummer in one band, and being a sound engineer for another, I can definitely relate to that.

But the artist in me also appreciates the visual aspects, the creativity.

Perhaps the sap in me relates to the message, but rarely. If you'll look at my little selection, I doubt (except for one song which comes to mind about childhood trauma which has no words in it I can repeat on this board), I doubt KORN has a lot to say, nor does Linkin Park or Type-O Neg, or Ministry. So,....so much for your assumption I was trying to share sentiments.

As for Ca Plane Pour Moi,....goodness, no message there, just nifty dance beats. (You would quite likely not understand "the message" anyway pierini because the entire song is in French and unless you are a native French speaker, you will be unable to translate,...many of the words are slang and have no direct "English translation," so you're not in danger of having any "message" forced upon you).

Naah, rarely is the case I listen to music for the message. Most often, it's the beat.

In the case of Seal, it's because he as a person directly affected my life BEFORE I knew his music,....it preceeded my awareness of his musical skills.

So no harm no foul. I semi-enjoy some of your posts too.

No translation needed.
The song is a rip of Elton Motello's Jet Boy Jet Girl. It was not all that "deep" or meaningful either when it originally came out either. The lyrics are there in plain English to be understood. (Gawd I can't believe I remembered that melody. )

Nope, not the same, and there are NUMEROUS supposed "translations." But you cannot translate many of those words into English because there is no direct translation, just like many Japanese words (for example, the same character in Japanese that would read "KU" can be translated as a Buddhistic term which means emptiness or void, but the more direct Japanese translation is read "SORA" or "sky." Another example in Japanese is the formation of two characters which would translate as "MUSHIN," which is a Zen term which represents "absolute innocence," or it can be translated as, "total freedom from desire, ambition, greed, or even fear.") Those are just TWO examples from one of the many languages in which there simply are no direct translations.....or in this case, multiple translations.

There are "versions" of supposed translations of this song, but even as I translate it, the very title can translate into at least 5 different meanings, so uhm, nope. No certifiable accurate translation,...only the best the English or American can do at trying to figure out what the French were trying to say in Ca Plane Pour Moi.

In French, some words are interchangable when translation is attempted. Depending on the context, world and life can be the same word. It's really all about context and the form in which it appears.

Sure you can do all kinds of internet searches to break down the words individually, but trust me, it doesn't work. You'll get a gist, which for most is generally sufficient, -- most people aren't looking for anything deeper.

And as pierini will tell you, not everyone looks to all songs for meaning, and the only songs that I listed where there was a "meaning" to me were Seals, but they were personal reasons. I did not intend any of those songs to be analyzed as if they held some mysterious, secret, or all-emotional deep message hidden within the lyrics. Ca Plane Pour Moi is a fun song filled with slang and gibberish with sly undertones. There IS a message if you want to dig for it, but it is not the intent of the song.
