If admins are listening - why not open up general chat with a political subforum ? The idea being any and all politicaly charged threads must go into the political subforum - that way the main general forum says flame free.

To be honest -- I was not for closing General Chat when it first happened. But since it has been gone I have certainly enjoyed the peace and quiet. The mods never saw any love when GC was open as our in boxes hit weekly (and at times hourly) with complaints. Unfortunately hard feelings did not stay in the GC forum because more often than not the hard feeling bred there would spill out elsewhere. A final decision has yet to made on GC but it is facing a steep upward climb into respectablitily in the eyes of the mods. Afterall, the purpose of this board is to DiscussFitness!

Yes, but without GC where am I supposed to post my stupid assed jokes?

And really, I think as long as you know who stays gone...GC will get by just fine. Think about the abusive posts - most of them were/are made by one person - and they still make them even without GC. And sometimes some VERY entertaining pictures appear that well, we have nowhere to share them with our DF friends now - not everything is a progress pic.

Sure I pissed everyone off when I said that potheads should be executed but hey, it's just an opinion and everyone else is entitled to their own too.

You guys know we are gonna keep complaining till we get it back.

Besides, you know the ignore button works pretty well for GC just like everywhere else.

Interesting....I wonder what the offensive posts were  . I mean I know there were offensive posts, I'm just curios what posts would ruffle feathers SO much.

One reason why people might have been ruffled is that GC was a popular forum, but it had quite a few posts which were perhaps politically incorrect. Now if those posts are confined to a subforum, they will be much easier to ignore for everyone. I might imagine person X would have gone earlier to GC just for fun, perhaps to see if anyone had posted any jokes or random crap, and on entering GC seen almost all threads bashing some political faction, that would indeed be distressing to person X.
So a general guideline could be - if discussion can get possibly heated, post it in political forum.
Immigration debate ? Political subforum.
Iraq war ? Political subforum
Why noone talks about Israel's nuclear program ? Political subforum
Intolerance of Islam ? Political subforum
Jokes/anecdotes/clips? General chat
Pics of hot women ? GC
Discussion on finances ? GC
Weather ? GC
Technology threads ? GC
What people do for a living ? GC
9/11 ? Political subforum
Managed health care threads ? GC
Books to read ? GC
Math problems ? GC
Guy who injects oil into his arms ? GC
Cars? GC

etc

Political subforum would carry a disclaimer on it being very charged etc, and to not disturb the mods except in case of spamming.
