Tom Petty in concert!
Saw him for the second time in two years (last year was at Darien Lake) this Sunday night up at the SPAC in Saratoga. He put on a great concert and it has to be a mad rush for him to hear 30,000 people singing his songs as he plays. Its gonna be sad to see him retire from performing.

Everyone is raving about him in concert.
Unfortunately I missed out on him live his whole career.
Do you like his latest CD?

I haven't heard it yet, but he played a couple of songs from it and I did like them so I might spring for it. Have you heard it? If so, what did you think of it?
If you get a chance to see him you should go. The crowd is extremely diversified in age - from 8 to 80 isn't much of a stretch! There were some kids next to us commenting on all of the "old" people at the concert. In my head I'm saying "like, duh! This guy has been playing for 30 years, so think it through...." Ah, to be young again, lol.

Glad you enjoyed it. I'm not going to ask why. We had an opportunity to see him a few years ago but I'm not a fan and didn't want to go. Wife was mad, she likes him. I told her to take a friend and go anyway.
The dude has had a long career though. It is time to stop before he gets too old though. We went to one year before last and the lead singer was on a walker - used to be a great band, but with the singer using a walker, the voices getting weak as they pushed past 50 - they had gone too long. He's making a good choice to stop while he's still ahead and still has his fans...apparently lots of them.

I like some of Petty's hits (loved him as a Wilbury - I miss them the most), but I always got held back by his voice not even being in the same league as his musicianship - you know, that Neil Young syndrome.
I gave a listen a few times the the new one. It's a keeper for his fans as it is him reflecting on his life and career. For me there were just a couple of interesting tunes. Hard core fans will think it's one of his best.

Guess I'm a hard core fan, lol. I think his funky voice is what makes his songs, gives them a distinctiveness you can't find elsewhere. The flip side is I can't stand Neil Young as his voice grates on me. Go figure..... Too bad Roy Obison's death broke up the Willbury's. Lots of great talent - the best part being they were together for the fun of it instead of trying to make a new, commercially successful band. Guess that is why I like Tom Petty. He appears to be there for the fans and the music rather than the cash. He has had quite a few disputes with his labels over his career.
Andy, I was very saddened by the embarassing performance that Mick Jagger put himself through at the Super Bowl. It would have been OK had he just decided to sing instead of trying to "perform".

And then Kiss decided to start up again - briefly...in spandex no less.
At least Simmons was up-front about it. He said, "Kiss is coming to town, you'd better keep an eye on your grandmother."
I don't think it matters how bad it gets for Mick, I still keep my wife home anytime the Stones are going to be near Atlanta.

I wouldn't say no to a free ticket with friends to go see Tom Petty live, but he's just not high enough on my list of "gotta see before I die concerts" to go out of my way.
I'd love to be pleasantly surprised someday or at least say that I was wrong about him.
I'd still love to see the Stones no matter what shape they are in.
