Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
This is such a great movie, I love it!
I heard somewhere, now correct me if I am wrong, (Jakenden) but I hear they are suppose to remake this film, I believe Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston's production company will put it out, with Johhny Depp in mind. I think he is perfect for this role, he is a . . versatile actor, would that be a correct term??

Versatile is an excellent way to describe him. Adventurous works pretty well too.
JD is one of my favorite actors and his willingness to take chances and accept unconventional and off the wall roles is a big part of that.

Yes it is being redone by Tim Burton (Called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). They have not even begun to do casting yet although Johnny Depp is rumored to play Willy Wonka.
It is not going to be a "remake" in the tradional sense but more of a re-telling, just like Sleepy Hollow, and Planet of the Apes.

You must not have seen Benny and Joon, the Astronauts Wife, NIghtmare on Elm Street, DOnnie Brasco, Blow, etc.. heh. The man is a damn fine actor who can portray almost anyone.

I enjoyed the hell out of that movie, but I think the role is sort've an easy one for actors to get acclaim for. Depp did a fine job of it and don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of his acting, but I personally feel too much credit is handed out for portraying the disabled. It's just not as difficult in my opinion as say perfecting a good baroque or a particular style of speech. Plus the disabled characters in movies are generally so endearing that your heart goes out to them and it's hard not to say "that actor did a fine job of that role".

Benny (Depp) was not disabled at all. It was Joon (Masterson) that had the mental handicap. Benny was simply illiterate but not mentally handicapped in the slightest.
His portrayal was excellent and his Buster Keaton impressions were dead on (The routine in the park was created entirely by him). I think it is a perfect example of getting into a role and doing a great job as he had to study Keaton and Chapplin extensively to make the character believeable.
