Alright, I have been reading these 40 times on here and they make me sound like im slow. I am seriously asking anyone out there to tell me if this 40 time is fast/slow/inbetween. Im a freshman, I weigh 122 lbs, and im 5'5. I run a 4.9 for my 40 time. Now I know this probably may seem slow to most of you, but some let me know how Im doing.

Don't forget the times on this site are posted by people that are in (for the most part) serious training, so unless you train for it they're always going to be fast comparatively.

Football?
My son has been involved in baseball, tennis, swimming in athletics in high school. He runs the 40 yard in 4.5 and has expressed an interest in football. No prior history with football. What can I expect if he does get involved. He's 5'6'' and weighs 135#. He's only 15. Sophomore in H.S. What position wouldbe the best and why?

If he were to be able to put on some more weight he could probably pull off a halfback position. He's got the speed for it and when you're a halfback height doesn't matter. If he were to be a bit taller he could pull off a wide receiver position or safety/cornerback.
The halfback position would be strength-relevant too.

Chances are that once you gain some more mass you'll be able to put up a faster 40-yd dash time (providing the majority of the mass is muscle). The weight itself will give you more momentum, and the muscle will give you more speed.
Your time is decent, but could be much better. Start eating and hit the squat rack like an SOB.

I squat very, very heavy and hard on mondays and fridays, and on wednesday we do dead lifts and cleans. Tuesday we do agilities such as high knees/shuffle/abs--things like that. Is that enough qorking out or enough squatting to get improvement? I appreciate your help--

Various excersizes contribute more to power than others. We do like box jumps, walking lunges, straight leg deadlifts (VERY light, but a lot of depth), and dot drills. If you look it up online, the program is called bfs or bigger, faster, stronger.

4.9 @253
Right now my 40 time is probably quicker then that.. probably 4.8-4.7ish@ 245. Im getting rather close to dunking aswell.
What i find funny is sprinters are the king of sprints and jumpers arnt the king of jumping. Olympic lifters are king at both (20m test and vertical test indicates this.. and pictures)

Wide Receiver (if he can catch) or cornerback
4.6 im not that big though, 6' 180# im gonna try and get up to either 195, or 220, for football, and that way i wont have that much weight to cut for wrestling (189,215are the weight classes im shoothing for) u'd probably think that ur 40 time would get slower when u put on more weight, theres this guy that went into Nike training camp, a DE, 6'4' 265 ran a 4.44 :O came in to the camp unranked came out pretty close to #1

[quote=TruGator]It's impossible to run a sub 4.0 40. So there's no way Michael Johnson ran that. I believe a study was done on a sprinter who was on steroids and ran a 9.73 100 meters which was the world record, but later wiped away after his piss was dirty. Anyways, the world record in the 100 only came out to be 4.28 after 40 yards. If he ran a 4.28 while taking illegal supplements and breaking a world record there's no way anyone runs a sub 4.0 40. QUOTE]
you are retarded, michael johnson may not run a sub 4 but thats beacuse he isnt all about explosiveness his thing is top speed and i guarantee that he can run over 25 mph but the races he ran he had to save a little. maurice greene and tim montgomery, the best two sprinters the world has right now, can both run 28mph and maurice greene has been clocked at a 3.9 for the 40yd. his best 100 time is 9.79 frmr world record. just for the record he takes no illegal drugs so thats a legit time. so let it be known, 3.9sec 40yd dash by maurice greene.

*sigh*
from http://www.findarticles.com/cf_dls/...cle.jhtml?term=
RELATED ARTICLE: TIME IS TIGHT
About all these 40 times you're coming across in these pages: They're probably bogus.
Here's why, courtesy of track guru/football recruiting analyst Bill Buchalter of The Orlando Sentinel. Buchalter points to the 1988 Olympics 100-meters final. "It was the fastest race in the history of the world, steroids or no steroids," Buchalter says. "It was on the fastest track in the world, with the guy (Canada's Ben Johnson) with the reputation for being the fastest starter in the sport."
(Johnson ran the race in a world-record 9.79 seconds to win gold. Alas, it later was found Johnson was taking steroids, and the record and the gold were taken away.)
Buchalter says that at the 40-meter mark, Johnson was timed in 4.69 seconds. No, 40 meters does not equal 40 yards. But Buchalter says that when he told this story at a recruiting gathering in central Florida, "an old, retired engineer came up to me with a slide rule and said that 40 meters equals a little over 43 1/2 yards. He said if you extrapolate it out, at the 40-yard mark, Johnson would have been at about 4.29 seconds."
Buchalter's point: If the fastest man in the history of the world ran 40 yards in 4.29 seconds on the fastest track in the world with the most sophisticated timing device in the world with seven of the world's fastest men running with him, there is absolutely no way you can have high school, college or even NFL players running the 40 in 4.2 or 4.3 seconds. The high 4.4s, maybe. Maybe.

What Buchalter was missing was top end speed.
