for a 40 yd dash? for a freshman 4.85 isnt bad, 4.7 is kinda good, 4.6 is really good.......for that position you should run a 40 yd dash in less than 5.2 sec or so
20 yd - around 2.8, 2.7 or 2.6
i run a 4.85 but then again i am a distance runner not a sprinter

Just wondering, in all respect, why someone hasn't called this dude out yet ???
8.9 for the 100, ..... AH!!!! it is only now occuring to me you must mean 100 yards (though that is still pretty damn quick and I have my doubts ... only because I can't be bothered converting it to metres for comparison )
If you however meant the 100 metre dash ... no that did not happen and my tentative guess is, until they legalise some hardcore dope or the next stage of human evolution suddenly hits it never will.
But enough of that how about me ... my stats are as follows
older than you all, weigh more (or less which ever is more impressive) than you, bench more than you and can run the 40 faster than you too
No offense intended here by the way (sarcasm does not travel well over the internet I know) I just strongly, strongly believe no-one has ever run 8.9 over 100m.
My $.02

Because there's probably nothing to call out. It's the 4x100 meter relay. Hayes was most likely not the lead leg, so he had a good flying start (not full speed, but pretty close). There's also no problem with reaction time, since they would have measured his time to cover 100m, not his time from a gunshot.. Look at the splits I posted for Montgomery, once he was accelerated he was about .84 seconds per 10m. I haven't looked for a source, but 8.9s for hayes seems very plausible.
It's of course useless to compare this 8.9s to a normal 100m sprint where you have a lengthy acceleration phase. It's even more useless to compare this to a 40yd sprint, where the entire run is probably an acceleration phase.

hhhmmmm an angle I had not considered, I withdraw any potentially offensive sarcasm from my last post on the matter (not that any offense was intended ).

First of all most of these times you guys are posting are huge BS. Second, the 40 time is so overrated. How many times have you seen someone run 40 yd's from a dead standstill, in a straight line, with no pads on??? Never.

first of all these guys are prolly running their 40s on a track and if you are tryin to play football they want you to run it on grass and if you dont they add like .1-.2 of a second. also they add in the factor of if the grass is fast or slow. theirs all kinds of stuff they look at. i ran a 4.85 on grass down at arkansas state university with my dad (the strength and conditioning cordinator there) and back at home on a track i ran a 4.7 so there is a difference. so i wouldnt be sayin what you run unless you run it on grass if you want to play football.

First off you need to improve your clean. That is prolly one of the biggest things in football. This will improve your explosiveness and 40 time. Speed and explosiveness are good things for recievers to have. It will help you to beat defenders.

yo whatsup boisouth im in burlingame playin for mills.
i'm a sophomore playing cornerback,5'9 and 130 lbs. and i think my best run was a 5.0-.2 but that doesn't mean much in football. the 40 marks your best possible time usually in shorts and running shoes, but that has no effect in real football. albeit may look impressive.i don't know anyone that could run their maximum 40 yarder for 4 quarters in cleats and full football equipment. and theire arent many times in football when you have to run 40 straight yards uninterrupted unless your a HB that just broke through a hole or a wide reciever. footwork and smarts are much more important IMO.

hey guys just wanted to weigh in here , i'm glad the convo has drifted away from the liars on here , but as far as the guy lookin to make the college team , i'm 6'0 170lbs (kinda light) and i tried for my local arena football team , i ran a 4.4 in the 40 and was one of the top 25 guys outta 200 , so that should give u an idea , as coaches look at the 40 heavily especially when judging recievers

Alright.. superman... How big's your school. What are your squat and clean. What class are you (junior, senior). I'm not very impressed, mainly because a nose tackle has no where to run to so a 4.7 forty won't do u jack squat. It's strength and explosiveness that counts there, and you haven't necessarily illustrated either. I highly suggest that you lay off the suggestions til u prove something...
