First i must give credit to those of you run miles and still have a good workout. Before track i was squating about 250 Freeweights and squating 375 machine. Havent really worked on legs a whole lot cause in shot and disc legs just arent inportant. The other day i had to run a 800 and it felt terriable. I think i ran it in 4-5min. Really sucks. How come i can squat so much but run like ****?

Haha legs arent important for shot or disc? You're out of your mind. The reason you can squat decent yet dont run well could be a lot of things, cardio-vascular shape, form, body composition or a multi-tude of other things. Squating 250 by no means guarantees fast running.
if you throw correctly your legs play a huge role in throwing. especially shot. squatting is a power thing. the 800 is endurance. they are completely different.

I never said legs are useless, i said " Havent really worked on legs a whole lot cause in shot and disc legs just arent inportant. " Legs play a good role in when ur throwing a shot or disc but for the most part the upper body is doing alot of the work.
Well, they usually are pretty big, don't train for endurance (most heavy squatters can sprint you down), don't have a need for running laps (a lot of powerlifters don't cut unless trying to make weight), try to devote their time to training for their events (bench, deadlift, and squat) than waste time doing cardio, and long distance running could have a detrimental effect on their squatting performance.
I run the 100m dash and you can usually draw a good parallel b/w how much someone can squat/deadlift and their 100m dash time (w/ in reason and using BMI as a control).
As far as 800m dash goes, if you could take 185lbs and squat it 50 times, you'd probably be a better 800 runner than someone who can take 315 and squat it 6 times. In the 800m run, endurance beats strength by a long shot.
