Eat....a lot! Then eat some more. Good, healthy food.

Rest. Then rest some more. This is when your body rebuilds.

Lift. (You guessed it....) Lift some more. You need progressive resistance to put on muscle. Work with your compound movements. They are called "basic" exercises for a reason.

don't believe the magazine routines but just use a simple basic approach and work hard on that. This will produce results. No need to do eg a million tricep exercises as you work them hard with dips (or benches if you prefer those) and overhead presses.
Here is a simple program, work hard, do not be afraid to sweat and 3 times a week is more than enough. And stick to this for quite some time. If you think you do not get results anymore (and do not think that too soon and also do not expect to look like a mutant in 1 month) change the rep schme instead of the exercises. do 3x3 (heavy weights) etc (see Mike Mahler for more ideas about these. By changing the reps scheme your body also has to adapt again. If you do not know about 5x5, do a google search about it:

Warm-up - 1 x 20
Squat - 5 x 5
Bench press - 5 x 5
Stiff-leg dead lift - 5 x 5
Bent-over rowing - 5 x 5
Press behind neck - 5 x 5
Leg raises 1 x 25

Learn to listen to yr body
Feel energenic, train
Feel hungry, eat
Feel tired, sleep
But 5x5 is a mass growing routine
Before doing 5x5 look into it properly
As some read it wrong and try
5x5 flat bench
5x5 decline bench
5x5 incline bench
You only need 5x5 on a mass movement

This is most important. If you're sick, dont lift. If you feel weak on chest day, do something light or some cardio instead. Push yourself, but dont overdue it.
