Boxing Training


hey i want to get in good shape and increase my punching strength im 15, 5'5 and 115 pounds will a 65 pound heavy bag be sufficient?

ive noticed there has been a lot of fighting questions on this forum lately.
really guys. go to sherdog.com and go to their forums. you can get info from expert fighters there. i think itd be a lot more productive then comming here for fighting advice/ fighting training . not saying you cant get help here , just saying itd be a lot more productive to go there cuz there are tons of experienced fighters and teachers there.

Power comes more from technique than strength. I live with a guy who has a blackbelt in kickboxing and used to by a British amateur champion. I can totally kick his ass in the gym but he can hit harder than I can cos he's got better technique than me. It just takes good old fashioned practice! :thumbup:

haha hes not asking for fighting advice... hes asking if a 65 pound bag would be to heavy or light for him to hit at his size.. well man you dont want the bag to not move at all but you dont want it to move to much when you hit it.. you dig? you gotta find the perfect balance in the middle, because you could break a wrist or knuckle if a bag ways to much.. so go to a place where they have bags and hit them even if theirs a sign at the store thats says DO NOT HIT.. haha its your money so hit it and test them out, and make sure you buy some wraps and bag gloves too.. hell just join a youth place and box for 20 bucks a month, i did it.. you learn alot more than just how to punch hard, and its fun.. good luck.

If you want to increase your punching power I would suggest doing allot of plyometrics for explosive power. Punch the heavy bag, using interval training. Slow, then fast. Fast pushups, shadow box infront of a mirror. After awhile you can use 2 1/2 lbs weights while shadow boxing.

Check out The Art of Expressing the Human Body. This boook covers many aspects of training, including increasing speed, punching power, and strength. It has pages of good punching bag drills that will increase all three =)

Not exactly related to what you asked, but what I do is 1 min rounds (going hardish) with 15 secs or so between them. Gets very brutal, arms and shoulders burning.

Strenght is someting that will come when your ready. The 65 pound bag is good enough. Do some weight training to help you speed-strenght. Work on good form and endurance work. Work on compound movement for the most part and hit the legs and core a lot more. If you need any help feel free to e-mail me . Good luck
