Dry Sauna advice

Hi
I have a dry Sauna at my gym and I like to use it after my workout.
I noticed there are people coming and going from the showers to the sauna and back. Someone told me they shower with cold water and then got inside the heat.
Is it a good way to do it ?

That is one method. It is a good workout for the heart (shocking)

I used to use a dry sauna about 2x per week. It really clears up your skin and makes you feel alive.

It releases toxins in the blood and organs through the skin. I don't know the specifics off the top of my head - google it.

LadyC, I think you are very knowledgable, and I have always respected what you have to say, however, I think this is a myth.

While many people feel invigorated after a sauna, there's no evidence that infrared saunas cleanse your body of toxins.

I can't say how an infared sauna compares but the OP asked about dry saunas. They have been proven to have health benefits and remove toxins.

Since a sauna also speeds up the chemical processes in the body, it is also a favorite way to help clear the body of accumulated toxins and improves general circulation. Not only does it speed up the body processes, but also perks up the working of the skin, which as the largest organ is important for waste removal, and in so doing stimulates the process to sweat, and helps remove waste products.

Believe it or not, but I have used dry saunas on a regular basis and belive it by my own experiences.

It does cleanse the skin through sweating and cause blood vessels to dilate. It also removes salts because of the sweating. However, it is impossible to sweat out toxins. The toxins do not go to the sweat glands and therefore, cannot be removed by sweating.

Quote:
Sweating opens pores and can temporarily cleanse the outer skin, but sweating in saunas doesn't remove toxins from within the body as some people believe. Also, scientific evidence doesn't support the widely-held belief that using saunas or steam rooms causes weight loss, which is a popular reason why many people use these facilities. Both do make you warmer, make you sweat and relax, lower your pulse and blood pressure by causing blood vessels to dilate, and remove salts from your system.

So yes, there are health benefits, but detoxification is not one of them.
