Not really, every now and again they'll throw in squat thrusts to try and empty the cardio tank. Lots of pushups, planks, things with core twisting and flexion, and jump rope though. They REALLY hammer on the core stuff.

Just started grappling this week... finally somewhere my pound for pound strength translates. I actually compensated for lack of skill by being able to overpower while keeping balalnce.

We did a sort of king of the hill thing where one guy stands in the middle of a circle of the rest of the guys. The goal is to score a takedown on the guy in the middle. If you take him down, you are in the middle, if he gets a takedown, he stays. My first attempt ever I took down my first opponent and then the next 3! I was beyond psyched. By then, though, my pitiful gas tank was empty and I could have been taken down by a 6 year old.

The 2nd guy I took out was a great example of sucking at technique but just using raw strength to get the takedown. He had double underhooks on me high, so I just basically just squeezed my arms together like I was busting a "most muscular" pose hard enough that I could bring both hands under his butt and then just hoisted him from there and slammed him straight on his back.

I'm covered in bruises and scrapes, I feel like I got hit by a truck, and my neck, thighs, hips, and wrists are sore as hell. I love it!

Had my best grappling class to date last night. We did 7 "live" sessions of rolling at the end of a grueling class, each time with a different partner, just 2 minutes(to keep intentsity high) between bells then a minute long rest until you grabbed your next partner. So basically, you get to see if you retained what you've learned so far, and see how far your endurance will take you.

Out of 7 opponents, I subbed 5 (one of them twice) and went to a draw with 2 of them. Weapons of choice included the guillotine(twice), triangle choke(twice), arm triangle, and a straight arm bar. I was crazy psyched, as one of my victories was over a guy that hasn't tapped out in class in like a month and a half, and always seemed to have my number in the past.

I know, I'm flat out bragging, but I haven't been this excited about posting an achievement here since my first progress pics. As I believe gooseneck said in the past, this stuff is bordering on addiction. Its the first and last thing I think of everyday now, and most of the time in between. Maybe that has something to do with the constant aches and soreness.

I'm giving a journal some consideration, just because i think it would be very different than anything I've done in the past. Also, I've committed to the school for a year, so unlike many of my past fitness-related endeavors (which pierini has sniped me on in the past ), I'm in this one for the long haul.

You haven't been married long enough to be thinking like that. You better not let your wife read this.

Please do Mav, that's a journal I for one would love to read; I think it'd add even more color to what is already a diverse pool of fitness pursuits here at DF.

I miss the martial arts reading all this .
