Football Practice?

i know many of you out there play or have played football during high school. my question is, do you get stronger or faster from just playing football, like from practicing and from playing during the games? i was wondering cuz practice is actually excercising but not really weight training. and if i dont, then how does football practice help me (not talking about knowing plays or catching the ball better)

general athleticism. Besides, blowing up the trap, making the pancake, hitting a guy in the teeth in general. What's not to like?
