I would think that strong triceps would help, but punching is mostly form related to get the most power.

get a punching bag if u have the extra cash and use it...hit with ur knuckles flat, put the tip(only the nail part of ur thumb)inside the fist, u wanna use MAINLY ur pointer and middle knuckles...Hit the punching bag a coupla times a week, u'll get a stronger punch...speedbags are nice too...im not really sure bout exercises for it but repetition of proper punching WILL increase ur force... my 2cents

You have to learn how to focus and direct your energy through your punch. Anyone can wail on something, but its the guy who has the mind control that will hit the hardest. Look at Bruce Lee for an example. 130 lbs. and he could dent a hard hat.
Also, learn to begin your punch from the center of your body, in other words rotating like a sprung coil.

FYI if you hit something hard with your thumb inside your fist you WILL break your thumb

In karate you're taught to wrap your thumb tightly around your first two fingers and target the blow with the knuckles of your index and middle finger. Also, your hand and forearm must form a continuous line.

Do standard push-ups on your knuckles. Descend slowly and explode up rapidly. Engage your whole body at the top of the push-up with abs tightly contracted.
Somewhere on the internet I say a website of an person selling a book with exercises geared towards strengthening and improving punching power. With a little surfing you'll find it.

There's a great forum there and all of his books, just scroll down a bit and you'll find the book "Punching with Power".

dumbell???
i take a dumbell with 30lbs on it and punch with it in my hand i usually do about 35-40 with each hand i dunno if this improves ur punch but it is quiet a work out.Keeping u r punches high gets tuff after you do a few but i would assume this would make ur punch pack more power but what do i know?

My cousin and I used to do that with 10 lb. dumbells until he got bad tendinitis in his elbows from it. After that I stopped using weights while shadow boxing. It's really more of a mind thing anyhow.

When i first started i punched hard until my arm was straight but it felt like it was gonna rip something in my elbows so now at the end of my punch i slow the weights down and it hasn't felt weird or anything since. If anyone thinks this is dangerous please let me know i'm not looking to screw up my arms.

Surely this would just be putting a strain on your shoulders to keep the dumbbell up? I've seen one guy do the same exercise but with a cable machine so as to oppose the motion towards the body instead of downwards.

Don't ever punch while holding a dumbell. Regular shadowboxing (fastpace) can hurt your back, when you punch with a dumbell you're straining your arms, shoulders and back in a very bad way.
Stop looking the easy way and just do some bag work. Remeber to stay relaxed until the point of impact´.

You CAN use the speed bag to develop strength and increase the speed and power of your single or repetitive punching.
Here is a link to some "focused workouts" to do that
Increasing strength with the speed bag
http://www.speedbagcentral.com/Tips_...orkouts.html#A
(also read the info. for increasing speed, which is an imporant component of power.)
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Here area few other links that may be helpful
http://www.veloforce.net/MMA-specific.html
http://tkdtutor.com/09Techniques/Hands/PunchInfo.htm
http://www.rossboxing.com/punchingwithpower.html
...and I suggest you read some of the threads on the Rossboxing forum. A great place to get first hand punching, and boxing information.
hope this helps you
