I was told not to beat the crap out of the bag. Just use it for endurance.

Yep, tender hands.... you work in the computer field I assume ? Most of my mates at collage in the computing course have really tender hands, basically because they don't go out much lol... just gotta take it ... they'll be alright sooner or later, no pain no gain.

Quite possibly you aren't putting your wraps on correctly. If they get loose and you're unloading on the bag then you'll get some serious friction burns. I had a big cut on my hand that didn't heal properly for weeks because of that.

I think you will notice your only getting pealed skin on the last 3 knuckes and never the first 2. I use to get that too even with hand swraps and bag gloves. Its due to glancing shots where enough friction is built up to tear the skin. The solution is to pound the bag with straight punches. Which is very difficult because a beginner would have a hard time generating enough punching power to satisify him so he tends to hook his shots causing it to glance off the bag.
To build up resistant do knuckle pushups on hard surface:
Fill a huge pot of some sort with rice and punch:

Yea, rice is a good start, but get to sand and then gravel.

Lol i can punch the bag with no gloves and almost never get cut unless i am being stupid and miss a hook or something and just have a rug-burn type effect. Did i mention that i am 15 ?
O sorry i forgot to mention that when i was like 8 - 12 and still in taekwondo, i would do knuckle pushups on cement and carpet because I thought it would make me super strong.

Ouch, be really, really careful with your wrists, my man. I type about 150,000 keystrokes on a good working day, and I've had intermittent problems with tendinitis and let me tell you, you want to nip any discomfort at the bud. What drove me nuts was that lifting would exacerbate the sitaution and make typing all but impossible. Since lifting ain't paying the bills, I had to lay off a lot more than I would have liked.
Ergo keyboard seems to have cleared that mofo up though.

Im with workaholic... See if you are punching properly.. Its not as easy as giving a proper punch ye know. And be sure if you are using gloves and wraps that you are doing it properly... and yeah of course if you havent done it for too long... your skin on the knuckles can be too sensitive, and can bleed.

How long are the wraps and what side gloves are you using? I have a large hand, I use 170 in x 2 inch wraps, and my gloves are 160z. to 18 oz. in weight. I use sparring gloves for the bag, this will protect your hands. And don't forget to wrap the wrist well too. After you found a goodd way to reap the hands & wrist you can go back to beating the living crap out of the bag.
