Muscle fiber strength

I understand the dfference between fast and slow muscle fibers. ( slow= endurance, fast= explosive, sudden contractions) what i dont understand is how to strengthen fasst twitch or "work them out". and also, if you strengthen your fast twitch fibers, do you get faster? if i am not blessed with the motor neurons to run fast, what can i do to get faster? i guess my parents werent really that fast at all so their genes were passed down to me and i am kind of slow

if there is a program out there and a website please send it to me Thanx all

just a brief reply here, the fast twitch fibres you are talking about, are responsible for muscle contraction during anaerobic activity (such as lifting weights, sprint running, etc) and slow twitch for aerobic (endurance) activity such as (jogging for extended periods etc). If you want to gain strength through hypertrophy (in this case enlargement of the fast twitch fibres, predominantly) then train with weights, sprints, etc. Whatever your sport is practise similar activities that require the muscle groups required.

Your percentage of fast and slow twitch fibres is genetically determined at birth, however, through training and exercise your body will adapt and significant gains can be seen through commitment and patience.

As I stated in the other forum

Just train your body what you want it to do... If you're a sprinter, you shouldn't train your body like a body builder or hockey player (yes, some exercises overlap)...

For the most part muscle fiber types is mainly about genetics (like jay` said)... I think it was the Russians that use to "muscle fiber type" their athletes and tell them what sport their body is good for, but as you can tell it doesn't work so well ... Because they had the body for that activity, but success depends many factors such as training, skill, and dedication.

(But to be technical, there are actually 3 types of muscle fibers....
Slow Oxidative, Fast Oxidative Glycolytic, and Fast Glycolytic.)

hit the weights and do sprints. like jay' said, those are the ones for anerobic activity.

there have been other posts about getting faster. do a search, you should be able to find some stuff.
