__Need A Fitness Hobbies To Keep From Being Sedentary__
Kinda long, but bare with me.
Hey, I'm a 16 yr old male and my life is pretty much completely sedentary. The only exercise I get is doing my 45 minute run on the treadmill every morning. The rest of the day I pretty much just zone out on the pc (except when I have school, but I still get no exercise at school). I cant drive yet because I dont have a car, and I live pretty much in the middle of nowhere and there is nothing except a major highway with no sidewalks or anything. I also live on a 10 acre ranch. I am in need of a fun hobbie that will get me in better shape (no team sports because I dont have any friends to play with). Can anyone give me some suggestions? I love boxing but they dont have any boxing machines that can actually hit back so its not fun lol. Anyways, I would appreciate any replies, thanks.
ps-I need something that is gonna keep me entertained for at least like an hour or something, and not something that I'm gonna be like "Okay 5 minutes is enough, this is getting boring, I think I'll go watch some T.V" lol

A good workout could keep you busy for up to an hour 3 days a week, or even 5 days depending on your plan. Have you considered martial arts training? You can take 1-3 classes a week and spend unlimited time at home not being bored.

well I took a Ju-jitsu class years ago and it was absolutly horrible. I like boxing ALOT more than karate and what-not. If only they had youth boxing place around here I would sign up in a second. Thanks for the replies man, I really appreciate it. Got any other suggestions? lol.

Yeah, get or make a heavy bag and do it at home.

What's on the ranch? Are we talking about an actual working ranch? Around here (Northwest Montana), there's a bunch of "ranches" which are actually summer homes for some rich out-of-state dude who has never stepped in a pile of **** in his life - but they all have really beautiful signs that say "Little Creek Ranch" or some such goofy thing.
If it's an actual ranch, there's a ton you can do. Roping, riding, rodeo stuff...
Even if it's not an actual ranch, how about building yourself an outdoor obstacle course - the building would keep you busy and if you do it by hand, it would definitely help keep you in shape. Once you have the course built, running through it for time will keep you in shape as well.
Um...just working on the ranch? Chopping down trees, driving fence posts, and so forth? Maybe that doesn't sound good to a 16 year old, but I personally actually really enjoy doing stuff like that, since you can point to it in the future and say, "I built that. That too. That over there too." Lots of a sense of achievement.
Host a boxing smoker in your barn.

Well no its not like a ranch with horses and stuff...its more like just a big piece of land. I dont live in the country or anything, I live in a suburb of Los Angeles, but the part of town I live in is like surrounded by farms and theres not to much stuff for like 7 miles. Anyways, I think I will get a bag maybe and workout with it. Thanx for da replies people.

How about investing in a mountain bike. With that much area, sounds like you can get lost (literally) for hours. This is one of my favorite hobbies and a serious workout.

Oh yeah, that's a grand idea. And a good quality mountain bike costs about 1/2 of a comparable quality road bike. Nice transportation too considering you don't have a car.
