Sprinting?

Hey dudes?

How do you improve your sprint time? I figure a proper start, but how about getting your acceleration up and so on?

The track at my school sucks. It's dirt, and I don't have sprinting shoes, but I intend to get some...

Right now my best time is around 12.5 seconds. My starts always suck, and I would really like to get a sub-12.

And long-jump would be really nice to improve. I've never trained for it, but I can jump 17 feet after a few tries. I would like to get up to 18½.

I wrote another thread with the same questions in General Bodybuilding, would appreciate some advice for that too.

In advance thanks.

Btw, there are no good coaches on my school, so you guys are my last hope.

I ran track in high school, too. You definetely need some sprinting shoes. You'll only get better in time and with lots of practice!! So just be patient, don't give up, and Good Luck with everything.

Hmm...

So it's simply just a matter of repitition, like learning languages? You practice enough and eventually you'll get better?

I thought sprinting was almost entirely based on genes... I'm glad to hear that isn't so.
