Training to run 12 miles

Hey, from my house to my college is about six miles if I run along the bike path on the river bed. I'm thinking I should start running to school. I used to be a hell of a distance runner in high school, and I'm thinking of joining the army soon, so I need to start working hard. Only prob is I haven't really done any caliber distance running in about 6-8 months (lazy freshman right here). Running six miles to and from isn't exactly a problem, I know I can train and build back up to running it, the problem is over training. Today is the 23rd and semester starts on the 9th. I don't necisarily have to be running to and from by the ninth, but around that time would be nice. I'm pretty sure I can do it but I'm not sure if it would be safe. My question is how fast do you think I can safely build up to running six miles strait without overtraining? So far...I'm at 2.

Merry Xmas

Don't worry about it. You join up and they'll get you right up to speed with your running. They'll handle all the planning for you.

Work the back, work the abs, run enough to build endurance, store enough body fat to get you through the difficult training without stripping off lean body mass (but not enough to slow you down).
