5 x 5

Anybody have GOOD links regarding 5 x 5 training? I've seen one or two, I'm just looking to find as many variations/perspectives as possible. Thanks.

What kind of variations are you looking for? Take 85-90% of your max and do 5 sets of 5.

There's all the info you need. Download the excel file for whichever version (SF or DF) you want to run and go at it. I'm in week 5 of the SF version and have PR'd "fairly" easily.

Also, on Lyle's forum (bodyrecomposition) there is a post by Blade on a bunch of stuff from Pendley regarding the 5x5, much of which can be found in his Read The Core interview, try googling "Pendley Read The Core Interview."

I did it for about 2 months to get a feel for it. I liked it a lot and its kinda reshaping the way I think about training. I kinda got talked out of it by hanging around the intensemuscle.com board. Its not that I don't think I could do the program justice, I just think I should listen to guys that know a hell of a lot more than me about it (like the creator for example) with regards to it. The few things I will continue to use from that methodology are the calf training (since NOTHING in the past has worked for mine) and the nutriotional guidelines (mega protein, carb cutoffs). Maybe next year though.

In all honesty, I'm actually rethinking a few arguments you and I have even had in the past. I'm trying to find something simple to maintain consistently for a long time. Something geared towards letting me continue to progress with weight, give me a little time for cardio, make me grow, and allows me plenty of recovery. I had good results with the high volume stuff I did to this point, but it left me fatigued/overtrained too often. I may start a new journal in the coming weeks, with a focus on keeping it compound, heavy, and simple.

It's all about trying new things and finding your way man. Sounds like you got your head on right, no matter what you do. If things aint working, you gotta try new things. That's how you make progress. It is an art, not a science.

Sounds more like a science than an art to me.

I like to think of it.. as a combination of art and science.

Creating art from science.
