ARGH I'm getting a cold!
Quick folks I need all the old wives tales and home remedies you have. I really can't afford a break from training right now.
Step 1: LOTS of liquid.
Step 2: Lots of rest.
Step 3: Tomato soup with lots of pepper.
Got any more suggestions?

Hot tea, it doesn't matter what kind. It's so good for you. The steam makes your nose feel better, the warm liquid soothes your throat, and the fluids are much needed.
You really should consider scaling back your workouts or resting completely depending on how you feel. Your body cannot fight a cold and recover from a workout and do both well. You could make yourself sicker for longer than if you just took it easy. I know, I know, but at least consider it!

Thanks Lifty! I've been downing hot ribena (it's from the motherland) like there's no tommorrow. Yeah there was no way I was hitting the gym. I don't get ill that often and when I do it's allways really quick and strong. I'm sweating like a monster and my head's full and ugh. just awful, no way could I handle weights.

Dude you can still work out when you're sick. The only exemptions are:
1) If you are contagious.
2) If you are running a fever.
3) If you are vomiting.
4) Mr. P's favorite: If you have a leaky bottom.
You may quite likely need to take your training down a notch or two if you want to keep on training more than one day,....it's worth lighter training.
Either that or wait it out, suck it up, stay in bed, nurse the cold, and don't return until you're asymptomatic, and then when you do,.....do all the things I just mentioned above and start out at a fraction of what you were doing.
Biggest mistake: Trying to jump right back in where you left off, or trying to get that hard and heavy too soon.
.
PS: Do NOT take ANY cold or flu medication AT ALL before you work out. Ever. Period. End of story. No debate. Feel free to take what you need AFTER your workout, but in no way, take any drugs before-hand.

By a small thing of glutamine, to take while you are fighting your head cold...It will help with recovery for workouts and recovery to your cold, Im not saying invest in a 10lb. bag and use it permanently, just buy a lb. of it and save for when your arent feeling good.
Also you sure it aint allergies man? its the time, everything is warming up unless you are in the southern hemisphere, pollens are building up, trees plants grasses weeds are budding...
You could also get some dayquil/nyquil caps... I dont think they are too catabolic.

Merrida, I would also add, if you feel up to it. Sometimes when you're sick you just feel absolutely exhausted, and I think it's best not to force yourself into the gym if you don't feel up to a light workout.

True, I think that's a given.
I was running more on the premise of the gym rat die-hards who'd work out "sick" (with the above symptoms) unless strapped down to a gurney.

If yr getting a cold nothing will stop it, enjoy the time out.
Dr s cant cure it so an old wifes tale just might make you feel better.
My wifes tale is to go to bed with hot water bottle and stay under covers as long as poss to heat the body up to help it kill the virus, Dose it work ? try it and tell us.
I cant stand being hot so never try it
