I was quite amazed the other day when I stumbled across a power training article on Franco Columbu's site about training the arms and never start an arm exercise with a barbell. Something to do with the fact you are using a rigid bar and it places stress on the elbows. He states " no matter what you've heard, never start an arm routine with a barbell". Has anyone one else heard this before? I suppose being a chiropraction he knows best. "Does he"!

So, what? Warming up doesn't help the elbows, as well other joints that are a part of the lift? Doesn't make sense to me, but hey, I am no doctor. I think as long as you are properly warmed up, you should be fine.

Perhaps he's suggesting that one shouldn't immediately hoist a 1x or 4x rep max ... without proper lean tissue acclimation. In Coumbu's case, he may acclimate with dumbbells (of a lighter combined weight than a loaded bar (of his target weight).
