Does anyone lay in a tub of ice prior to a competition?

Thank you so much for the information, that was so helpful. I did not expect all that- you are so gracious to take time out and supply all that information. I am certainly going to go after my dreams and you have helped tremendously.

Nope, never heard of that. If anything you want to be out in the heat, the sun or even a sauna would be perfect, to help lose some more water and increase your vascularity prior to stepping on stage.

Todd, I was wondering if you consumed any simple carbs after your workout during your extreme cutting?

I think it was right around 5-6 weeks out from the contest that I began to cut out my simple carb creatine mixture ( XX Cell) intake for post-workout meals. I did this simply because it came with the calorie reduction that I had to skim off from those weeks on. I then switched to just plain micronized creatine powder and mixed that with my whey protein shake with no simple carbs...that was my post-workout meal from that point on.
I have now added XX Cell creatine mixture back into my post-workout meals.

Hey Todd,
I was reading about how you prepped or the show and I backup everything you say. It sounds like the very same thing that I do and have went through. The experience of being up on stage for the very first time is an experience I will never forget and if anyone ever gets the chance to enter one...then go for it! I have established a 12 week Guideline on my site for those who may be interested, please remember that this is only a guideline that has worked for me...everyone is a little different and you will find yourself tweaking your workouts and diets along the way.
Here is a direct link to the page:

Todd... I did an all natural show 3 weeks ago and a freaky thing happened "the day after" you know how you will hear people say the looked better the day after, it is true and I figured what I did to ge there. I usually come into the shows real lean (4.3% this last show) after the prejudging round was over I started to consume tons of protein bars, snack bars and rice... I figured I had went from my normal 150 grams of carbs the day before to 600 the day of. The next day after the show, I was friggin ripped even more. My BF% had dropped to 3.7 and I had actually lost 2 pounds. I was actually told to try this the day before the show but was afraid to mess with it seeing I have done prett well in the past. My theory behind this that becuase I was still just sipping water throughout the contest day that all the carbs that I was consuming was sucking any water from my subcontaneous skin and dragging it into my my muscle cells.... does this make any sense to you??
Anyway if you do get a chance to check out the above link you will see that I have updated my Fridays routine of just a slight carb load to 4 times my original amount.
Regards,
Steve Constantine

Well, the same thing happened to me, I woke up more ripped the day after the show than I was during the actual show. For me, at weigh-in time the night before the contest, I was at 178 pounds, then between pre-judging and the evening show I was 175 pounds and even more ripped. But the next morning (Sunday morning) when I woke up, I was about 178 pounds and extremely full, ripped, vascular and tight everywhere...it was unbelievable.
The only real food I had after pre-judging and before the evening show was a steak, a small white potato and some green beans along with a glass of red wine. I then continued to sip only water until I was backstage for the evening show. When backstage I had a small piece of chicken breast, another small white potato and then after than it was strictly a small handful of raisins once in a while (like I had done back stage before the pre-judging). I continued to sip on water as needed only until I was done the evening show.
But, the MAIN reason why I feel I was more ripped the day after compared to during the contest was because I had taken in 5-6 slices of pizza after the show was all over with. I had pizza along with water as my "reward meal" for doing the show. I then came home, took a shower and went to bed. I believe my body and muscles took the fat, carbs and salt from all that pizza and basically a "supersaturation" process took place. Since I had been depleted so greatly of carbs and fat for so many weeks, my MUSCLES literally soaked up those nutrients and it "filled" me out, hardened me up and the end result was a super ripped and tight condition.
My carb load was good the nights before the competition, and I did get ripped, but (obviously) my body was craving more, and could of handled a higher intake of fat and carbs. Had I had some pizza the night before the comp, I would of been laughing. But you learn something from everything..even after the comp is over!!
So yah, depending on how well your conditioning is leading into the week of the contest and how carb depleted you really are, I think one's body can then handle slightly more carbs/fat than one might think. I know I learned my lesson, and a pleasant one it was!

Thanks man! Most likely next spring I will do my next show, and I will probably do the same exact regional show, and then onto the Nationals, which is about a month later. This time I will try to win the Overall at either one of those shows and capture my Pro card.

Hey Todd,
Saw your pics and you look great!! what organization do you belong to? Just curious and wondering if you have heard of the INBF or WNBF, seems to run big here on the east cost. The show I just did in Massachuesettes had 125 competitors, one of the classes I entered (Masters over 40) had 13 competitors. One thing I have noticed, as a point of interest, that the women classes are getting larger and larger every year with many of the classes having as many as 15 competitors.

Steve - I belong to the WNSO (World Natural Sports Organization). The show I did had over 100 competitors and there was fitness, figure, modelling, and then women's and men's bodybuilding. The show was awesome! Because there were so many competitors, the show was long....the men's bodybuilding was last to go on, and my weight class (light-heavyweight) was second to last to go out, so I was backstage for 6 hours before going up on stage for the prejudging! Then, there was like a 4 hour break and then the Evening show began...so I was backstage for about 3-4 hours before going out for that. It was a long long day, to say the least! But it was worth it, and I had a lot of fun, and will definitely do it again. The WNSO is a great organization to compete in.
Hopefully one day soon, I will get my pro card, that is what I am shooting for next time out.

UPDATE!:
For those interested, I have decided not to compete this coming spring, in order to pack on more size and further bring up my weaker areas (calves and hamstrings). Because of some setbacks earlier this year (the flu, etc.), I feel that I need some more time to present the package that I feel I am capable of bringing to the table in order to turn Pro. My main goal at this point is to shoot for my Pro card as a natural bodybuilder within the WNSO federation, and not to simply repeat my placing from last year.
So I am aiming to compete again in the spring of 2006, unless otherwise decided upon along the way. Thanks to all who have supported me along the way and up to this point, I'll keep everyone updated with my progress at various times, and hopefully there are some of you out there who will decide to try competing and write about your invaluable experiences within this thread!
Talk to everyone later! Peace! :
