Cellulite
Lets talk about it. Something us guys don't really worry about much, but the girls certainly do. And I got to thinking what exactly it is...just access fat right?
Protruding out pushing against the skin to cause the dimple effect...but nothing supposedly is proen to work. Even cutting down BF% by a alrge degree, sometimes, does not rid of it.
Discuss? Comments? Suggestions?
No, Im an 18yr old male, I do not have it...but curious, being in the fitness genre and all, why this is so hard to rid of...even from healthy eaters and excercisers.

The amount of cellulite an individual has is mostly due to genetic composition. Cellulite is extremely difficult to get rid of because it is caused by excess fat whose surrounding net-like fibers are very weak. This causes the fat to bulge in between the fibers and under the skins surface, making it a multi-faceted problem. Cellulite reduction requires a reduction in overall body fat.
There are tons of websites with miracle cures for cellulite, [Don't waste your time or money finding a silly cream or solution]. Diet, exercise, and drink water regularly, and do the best you can with your inherited genes!

In addition a person (no, not only women have cellulite but it is more prevelent on them) can be skinny and have it. People who are prone to it seem to have it worse as they age due to a reduction in skin elasticity.
Cellulite is not pretty to look at but most times it can't be helped if those are the genes you were dealt.

Here is a more thorough explanation of what conditions are needed for cellulite to show up. http://diet.ivillage.com/tone/tcellu...,,p7zn,00.html

Wow, you must of missed this part of the article:
"There is also no differentiation between subcutaneous fat and cellulite.
Subcutaneous fat is stored in fat cells that are supported by connective tissue. This tissue network gives the fat storage areas support. As fat levels increase within the cell the connective tissue network takes on that “dimple” appearance. It doesn’t matter whether you call it fat or cellulite, the same rules apply if you want to lose it."

AST addresses many things related to fitness for both men and women, it's not just a bodybuilding info site, their FAQ section answers a variety of questions that have been asked by people over the years.

Excerpt Taken From another source....
Excess Fat and Cellulite
However, there is a clear association between excess fat and cellulite. The enlarged fat cells put pressure on connective tissue which affects the skin's smoothness and tautness. To keep the layer of connective tissue between the fat cells supple, eat foods rich in bioflavonoids and vitamin C.
Is There a Cure for Cellulite
Bottom line - despite intensive research, there is no non-surgical cure for cellulite.
Does Dieting Help to Reduce the Appearance of Cellulite?
Like any other fat or fat cells, cellulite fat responds to calorie-restriction and is burned off by calorie-deficit, but it is the stored fat that goes away - the fat cell is still present and can refill if calorie excess resumes. That is why many treatments of cellulite are directed at the surgical removal of the fat cells themselves.

Actually the estrogen connection is quite important in the formation of it. High estrogen levels are associated with making fat cells "sticky" and holding together in clumps. Clumped fat being forced through connective tissue creates the appearance. Even if a woman is skinny with high estrogen levels she can see the evidence of cellulite by squeezing her skin between her hands in female fat deposit areas like thighs butt and abdomen. It is not only an obesity issue or one that dieting will rid a person of.
This was an interesting link .
Getting rid of it would mean avoiding puberty for most women, not simple fat reduction.

So basically from what I have read (both your links and mine) is that one can use dieting and fat reduction to empty out the cellulite fat cells but the cells remain there, and if fat gain again occurs they can be refilled. As well, some women's estrogen levels can produce the formation of cellulite without much that can be done on the women's part to counter this. Is that the jist of it all? Just want to make sure I've got this right cuz this is some cool info.

That's what I understand Todd.
I know it is really easy to get women (people) to buy anything that promises to improve their looks, but cellulite is one of those things like eye colour. You can mask it you can play with it, you can make temporary improvements but you can't eliminate unless you are dead or have no fat cells.
Read the first page of results for a google search for "cellulite and estrogen".
I wish I hadn't posted the ivillage article as it leads people to believe that following that diet for weight loss will improve the appearance of cellulite, It won't, weight loss will. I have found that on my own legs and midriff that the increase blood circulation from weight training (not CV training for some reason) is the only thing that reduces it's appearance. Unfortunately it has less and less impact on it the older I get while still at full estrogen levels. Who knows what will happen in the next 10 years.
