Chin up problem

I recently bought a home chin up bar that you put in the doorway today and I just finished setting it up. I searched all over the house for a place to put it and the only place it could go was in my bedroom doorway. The problem is that it's pretty much level with my head and since I'm tall, my arms are still bent at a bout 90 degrees when grabbing the bar and my feet are still touching the floor when I let myself hang. Is it okay to just hold my feet up and do chin ups this way or is it neccessary to have the bar higher at arms reach.

if you only have to bend at your knee's i would say thats alright, still not optimal though. if your tucking up with yous pelvis also i would deffinatly recomend a higher aria..

When I hang down and bend my legs, my knees are just an inch above the floor. Can I still get a good workout this way?

only you can answer that. do you feel awkward holding your legs up like that? bending your knee's and crossing your feet at the ancles is done by many people for core stability as well as to prevent swinging on the bar during a set, the question you need to ask youself is does this feel ok or would a few extra inches help me with those last few reps where i am unable to hold me body with stricked form.

Why would it matter if his knees are bent up? I have to do this a lot of the time.

I had the same problem. I also workout at home and all the doorways that I could use in my basement were pretty low. I've been doing what you have been doing and I don't think it's a big deal. Don't worry about it.

i didn't say it would or woulden't. all i said if it feels awkward and your struggling to keep your toes from toutching the ground then maybe its not high enough....on the other hand it could alow him a spot when needed...:

and only he can know that..

My only problem was getting myself up but that was because I haven't really ever done chin ups. I'm sure that'll change once I get my upper body strength up.
