Well, first part cigarettes have an effect on when lifting is most likely your lungs. Are you a smoker yourself? bodybuilding and smoking just do not mix. Like so many other sports, avoid full stop. Ask yourself this ( if you are a smoker) which comes first, training or fags? If anyone is keen to get fit then just pack up smoking. Remember that if you have a strong enough will to pursue physical fitness over time than you have the will to quit. You could also put enourmous strain on your heart as the smoke will effect your heart in tern resulting in a potential heart attack. Be safe. I hope this helps slightly.:

well, to start, oxygen to body tissues is reduced by up to 40%. blood is thickened, making it less efficien and increasing risk of heart attack or stroke. nicotine can trip the heart over into arrhythmia.

and it stinks.

need more?

I knew a guy that smoked while he lifted. It was a CFB weight room and the guy had a smoke hanging out of his mouth while he was benching.

I totally agree with teenbb, everytime I see someone dropping a fag end out on the street I feel like making them eat it and saying, " here's a place you can put your rubbish"!:

If you smoke try going a couple weeks without and you'll notice an improvement in your workouts! I smoke occasionally on the weekends. For a while it was every weekend. When my BF quit (he was a regular pack-a-day guy) I quit too and everything improved dramatically!

So now I am giving it up again. Even though he's back at it I'm not smoking this weekend

Don't want to be the bible-packing preacher on this topic but I need to share.

My wife and I have been providing help to this 61 year old man who has oral (tongue) cancer. This is his 2nd incident and this time it is very serious. He is a widower, has no children, and no siblings close by. He had no health insurance when we met him. He looks like he is at least 80 years old.

He smoked cigars & pipes (legal stuff) and now he is paying for it. We are letting him stay with us in our home until his surgery which will remove his tongue, part of his jaw, probably his voicebox and who knows what else. He is in intense pain even with pain medicine. I wish there was a way that I could take some of his pain and feel it for him.

Not everyone who smokes will get cancer but, and I just heard this, 90% of the people who develop lung cancer were smokers.

I wish everyone who smokes could spend a day with this gentleman. I can't help but think it would leave a lasting impression and probably result in a few deciding to give up smoking.

Coming from a former 2.5-3 pack a day man cold turkey is the way to go,I tried the cutting back deal, patch, gum, etc, and failed miserably. From what Ive read it takes 72 hours to get the majority of nicotine out of your system, basically the amount that keeps you coming back for more.Thats why patches, etc suck.Would you give a recovering alchoholic a beer to help him?Look at it this way,you are paying someone to kill you.Plus look at the money you waste.I tried to smoke and get in shape both and it just dont work.Makes you feel pretty damn dumb when you can squat 300lb,but cant get 6 reps for lack of oxygen and not strength, and its all self induced.Just freaking quit man, dont know any other way saying it.
