correct form for roman chair?

What is the correct for for the roman chair? Do you go all the way down, and all the way back up on each rep, or do you go half way down, and up?

That's an excellent question.

It depends entirely on what you're trying to "do" or accomplish or target on the RC. But I'm glad to see someone actually ASK about the ROM aspects.

myself, i prefer to go all the way down, pause, then come up to just above parallel (but not WAY above, if you follow) because i use weights. i perform each rep as a distinct separate, not as a series of bobbing up and down cause i get cramps in my back when i do that.

I still ask about the original poster's "intention" of WHY they're using the roman chair. There are so many alternatives, and it's easy to misuse this sucker.

I'm always leary of "pauses" at tops or bottoms of movements..... why do you do so? (just curious)

PS: Not "always" curious, let me retract. Depending on the exercise, the weight, and phase in lifting, I do use 'em (modified).

But in this case,.....why?

cause when i just go up and down in a continuous movement, my back cramps - hurts like a sunuvabitch. it's also much easier for me to keep focus on what i'm doing, particularly since i'm using some fairly heavy weight on this exercise (65lbs plus my oversized torso, lol).

the reason why I use the roman chair is simply because when I joined my gym, i had a free consultation w/ a trainer, and he said that the roman chair is like a complete abdominal workout. He said that it targets your entire abdominal region. The only thing he didn't do is show me how to use the sumbitch.
