Wouldn't increasing flexibility make it so you don't have to arch your back to reach the bar if you're on a box? I'm only 5'3 but when using 25lbs plates I feel the bar is too high sometimes. I don't lift anywhere near 400lbs though lol I'm at just over 100lbs.

Have you tried good mornings or weighted hypers for the hams? Maybe sumo DLs would help, although I guess they hit the hips and outer quad (iliotibial?) more than the hams.

Loading up the bar with 25's is a good idea in theory, but putting 6-8 25s per side would get PAINFULLY annoying plus it would hog all of the plates in the gym.

weight training "barefoot" is actually the most effective and natural way to train. it's proabily safer, but then you have the people who drop weights on their foot, (we don't need to go there) rolls eyes.
I would think that you would have a great less of a chance or none at all of slipping on the plates barefoot.......wearing socks while standing on plates is not advisable.

The point of startin on a box is so that you sit in the hole deeper which works your starting point. If you have to compromise your back posture, then you aren't doing them right.

It's definitely not the prettiest form used, I've seen much cleaner by guys in my gym, for sure. The dude in the video pretty much lets the weight control him on the way down, not very good.

Spoken like a bodybuilder Todd. I do'nt see too many powerlifters controlling the weight on the way down.

That guy weighs no more than 180 lbs and he's deadlifting 455 for 2 on a 3 inch box. You aren't going ot have perfect form all the time. It's definitely not bad though.
If you are a powerlifter, you train like one. You don't really control weight on the way down. If you are a bodybuilder, maybe you would. It' really depends what your goal is.
A powerlifter wants to lift up the most weight. In a meet you arent judged by how you put the weight back down.
The more i really learn, the more i'm starting to consider myself a powerbuilder. I like to control the weight down, but i set it completely down now, and then i do another rep. I do have a video of a guy doing i think 535 x 7 where he does what Todd suggests, but he's a pure bodybuilder, controls the weight, just taps the floor all the time.

Within reason, no dropping weights. What that guy does is no problem, he isnt going to expend energy in a controlled negative. As he's not concerned with reps but the quality of each rep, he essentially resets between reps.

I agree lol. In order to dead 245 you'd need 4 plates each side. To deadlift 295 which would still be light for a guy deadlifting 400 you would need 5 each side. Dimel deadlifts work just go with those.

Yea i gotta say overall it looked nice especially for being 3 inches up... his back had a slight curve but nothing to whine about.

For lifting I usually use boots w/ a steel toe and good traction w/ a level sole (not rounded like tennis shoes, etc...)

yeah i've seen a couple people do that. Its all about a firm base.
Another important aspect is the position you end up in with your feet in a certain type of footwear, or out of as the case may be. If I wore boots I'd have trouble sitting back during squats because of the heel height in them.
As far as loading up 25's, it is a huge pain in the ass, and yes you do hog all the 25's...but...its for a good cause!
