Hopefully your technique was on point (sore back only tells you ...you have a sore back).
When I was big on BB deads I used to have some nasty scrapes when hitting
higher weights. I personally do not have much use for intense BB deads. I'd rather use a "hex" bar or DB these days.
There was a great article that was long over due about different dead techniques and why a person would use them. It showed video footage of a powerlifter way of deadlifting, an athlete way (other than lifter) deadlifting, and an
average joe way of deadlifting. All 3 were done differently for different reasons. The powerlfiter is the most dangerous and the ugliest of forms, but is the most effective for dealing with the physics of getting the most weight up (the simple goal of a lifter) "leverage versus weight".
