Drag Curls?

Someone was telling me about an exercise called "Drag Curls" that hit the Biceps hard, but I can't find anything here on the Search feature, and searching online gives a few articles, but the descriptions are less than clear. Basically, from what I can tell, you hold the Barbell as you would for a regular Curl, but instead of curling the Bar upwards, you kind of "drag" the bar up your body, from the waist to the lower chest. I'm guessing that by doing this your Bicep and Brachialis (is that right? I mean the flat muscle that lays under the Bicep) are kept under constant and strong tension.

Does anyone know anything about this "Old School" exercise, such as exactly how to do it, how effective it is, etc?

Regards in advance.

LOL. Err, thanks for that. I kind of found Google a while ago though, tbh. I was really looking for more insight into how people here see them, whether they are popular, and the best way of doing them correctly, etc.

Teflon:
I have added these to my routine after reading this thread (I was looking for something different in the way of bicep work anyway!) and I gotta say that after my 3rd workout with them I do like how they hit my biceps. My first try at them really fried my bi's and forearms. I'm not using an overhand grip like it is described but they still work the bi's tremendously. Maybe for variety sake I'll mix the grip. The range of motion may be limited but it is a killer exercise when done correctly.

The "Iron Guru" had some off beat ideas but he was a master at biomechanics. He was incredible at figureing out how to isolate a muscle. Does anyone know if he ever put his knowledge of exercise physiology into book form?

IronMan; well, I'm glad that someone else took them up besides me! The problem that I'm having with them is that by the time I've done 3 Sets of Curls and 2 Sets of Hammer Curls my arms feel like crap anyway so I don't have a lot in the tank for the Drag Curls, no matter how light I go.

5 sets should be enough, then. If you want to incorporate them I suggest you atlernate them with your curls every other workout.

yep i love drag curls. they really hit your bis/forearms, without involving your shoulders as much as regular curls

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I did them today and my arms felt on fire with the veins popping out all over the place. Felt good, even though I felt dizzy after I'd finished.

just tried these for the first time today. im going to start hitting biceps on Monday and Thursday. Monday is a light day, Thursday im doing 4 sets 4 yo 6 reps of standing bb curls, and chins. i skipped them today and did 3 sets of 8 reps drag curls. my arms didnt feel that different after wards, but im at work now and i def feel them. im especially feeling it in my lower bicep closes to my forarm. these feel good, i think im going to stick to using them for shocking purposes only, but ill let you all know if that changes, thanks again for the great idea!
