Drop Sets ??

Hi fellars, I was wondering if Drop Sets are okay to use for building mass as they do stimulate the deep muscle fibres from what Milos Sarcev says? By this I mean any exercise but also lateral raises.

Lately I have also learnt they building bulk takes a lot of time and the best muscle results without stretch marks will be slow ones. I hope this is of some advantage and has certainly brought comfort for me. :

I prefer ramped sets myself. Others like straight sets with all the weight they can handle.

But you know what? I've seen some pretty big guys - way bigger than I'll ever be using them to get some more reps in after they've wiped out with heavier weights. They say the drop sets and extra reps made them big.

Since they dwarf me, I'll not argue the point. If you like them and they give you results - then do them. Can't tell you anything about lateral raises because I don't do specific isolation work. I've decided that if I don't have it, I can't shape it so just do compound mass/strength building exercises.

I would say that what works for one muscle or one lift will work for another. Muscle fibers are basically muscle fibers and should all be trained pretty much the same way.

Drop set = work heavy then when you can't lift the weight anymore - use less for succeeding sets to enable you to get more sets and reps in.

Ramped set = start light and work up to your maximum weight for the day in your last set.

Straight sets = using the same weight to every set.

Unbelievably, all methods work. Just got to find the one that works best for your body and your goals.

thanks welch. i have another question now before working any body part, i do the MAX OT warm up of 12 light, 10 light of the same weight, then 6, 3, and 1 increasing weight. then i start my set. is that similar to ramped sets? for me, that seems to be the best way to get that muscle warmed before i start. and currently, i am doing 3-4x6 heavy. thanks

Yeah, something like that.

I actually did 1 set of 10 with 50%, 1 set of 8 with 60%, then 1 set of 3 with 90% of my planned working weight and was ready to go. Got the idea from Todd, the Max OT guru of DF, the man with some of the best results I've ever seen in a natural lifter.
