General Question

I lifted weight and made great gains about 4 years ago.. got out of it for awhile.. lost a lot of my gains subsequently. I've gotten back into it again and having been hitting it heavy and hard for about 5mo. but it seems that my muscles aren't responding like they use to.. i seem to grow at a very subdued pace. Is this in my head or something that can happen to a degree. When i made great gains 4 years ago was the 1st time i ever touched weights. I'm 27 years old

Thank In Advance
Jay

What is the style of your weightlifting regimen?
How well are you feeding your body for growth?

I eat a very disciplined diet. I'm 5'11 and weigh about 192lbs and take in about 250 grams of protein and consume around the neighborhood of 3000 calories a day. I stack practically every muscletech supplement on the market.. Nitro Hardcore, Cell Tech Hardcore, Anator-P70, Leukic, NAnox9 and Gakic.. I've been stacking these for about 4mo.. I am making progress but it just doesn't seem the same as last time and in fact last time i didn't even take supplements other than a general protein. The first time i got in shape was the first time i touched weights which i'm sure shocked the hell out of my muscle fibers.. I lift hard and go in with the same dedication as last time.. just seems less results. Thanks in advance.

First, please please please save your money and dump all those mucsclecrap supplements. Get yourself a few tubs of protein powder, some creatine, and a decent multivitamin and be done with it.

Your muscles will adapt to training and you will see diminished returns as your progress. Basically it will keep taking more time and effort to continue progressing. When I first started training I put on about 40 lbs in 4 months, at that rate, I should weigh about 900 lbs by now of solid muscle.

Have you changed up your routine since you started? Have you adjusted your diet? As your body adapts, you need to change the training stimulus whether that be through different exercises, rep ranges, order of exercise, amount of training.....etc. Also, your caloric needs will increase as you add muscle so you need to ensure you are keeping up with your body's requirements.

I think what you saw before was just "beginner gains."

Keep up the hard work, you are making progress, it's just slow. That's how it is most of the time in the fitness world.
