Getting stronger without building to much muscle?

Is there a way the get stronger without building too too much muscle? For baseball I want to get stronger at the plate but don't want to bulk up too much because then I can't move or stretch good when in the field.

Eat at maint. levels, and do quick reps that stress the nervous system. Use exercises that work more than one joint at a time, and as many full body exercises as you can, such as overhead squats and power clean & press.

dude look at all the people here trying to build muscle that are having problems getting bigger. getting bigger dosent just happen like that. Your not going to get huge lifting weights to get stronger. you dont realy have to worry about it. And just because you get bigger dosent mean you cant be as flexible as anybody else.

I wonder why that is that you can get stronger and not really gain too much size, can someone fill me in here? Also, say i'm using my westside routine, although strength is my primary goal, while doing westside i still will pack on some size due to the repetition sets right?

But really, we don't konw anything about Mike, he could be an extreme mesomorph for all we know and pack on size like a boar. Eating at maint. levels would prohibit size gains, just strength gains. If the muscles get stronger without mass gains, the more "efficient" they become.

CJNY, or anyone else who's well informed on muscle strength, growth, and technique...do you think these guidelines or methods would apply to all muscle groups/types of lifts, or only the specific tricep/bench press?
