UghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I continue to go back and forth. I REALLY DONT WANT to use them, but my buddykeeps convincing me lol.
Builder, did you have the problem I have right now at one point? And if so, how long did it take for your grip to catch up? I would much rather do it with just my grip instead of the straps but also, my grip is really holding me back right now.

Firehawk.....not everyone gains in the same places at the same rate. If you find your grip is holding you back and you are not a competitive powerlifter then by all means use straps in your workouts. Just make sure not to neglect grip work later on. You can always do static holds with several hundred pounds and you may even find it more productive. There is nothing wrong with doing grip work separate from your deadlift workout.

What do you mean by competitive? Do you mean someone who is in competitions and such?
I dont have any desire to be in those, however i desire to be as strong as I can be, so based on that, what do you think? Do you think i should not use the straps for now?
Im thinking i shouldnt i guess. I want my OWN grip to hold the weight. Perhaps I should just start loading the bar as much as possible and just do as many reps as I can until my grip gives out, and hopefully it increases a few more reps every time.
SEe, i know i wont do grip work later on in my workouts, so thats another reason im hesitant to use straps. I want my grip to get a workout without me having to go out of the way to do specific forearm/wrist exercises.

I am lucky in the grip department. I have always had thick forearms and lots of grip. However, I have been back to working out for a few months now. And in that short time my grip and forearms have improved considerably. And at first I was having a hard time with the poundage that I use. But I persevered and now I'm ok. Don't get me wrong, the weight is heavy and my forearms ache with the work and the pump. but it is goooood!! Like I said. If you can hang on to the weight then you have more POWER. And let me ask you this: would you neglect your calves? NO. You would want them to be strong like the rest of your legs. I would not use the straps. good luck!

I've already said no to straps or gloves, or anything else that helps, in order to better my grip(i actually found gloves made my grip worse).
Last week doing stiffl-legged deadlifts, I simply couldnt hold the weight for the full 6 reps, so this week, I wont be upping the weight, until I can.

You guys make it sound like your grip is only getting work from SLDLs and shrugs. That's simply not true. All your other lifts, including presses, pulldowns, etc., all work your grip. To think that doing 450lb deadlifts with straps for your legs and back will keep your grip lagging is just silly. The deadlift isn't a grip exercise. Straps make the heavy lifts safer and possible. My forearms are just fine from bag work, martial arts, and other lifts.

My forearms are not sore after any other exercises, even all of them put together. Only deadlifts really make my forearms feel it.

you can see your fore arms working when you're doing deadlifts. Thats not to say deadlifts are a grip specific exercise, but it is a lift where grip strength is required, and improved upon by doing the movement.
