I think it jsut depends. If you are yelling to show off then, someone needs to slap you silly. If you are INvoluntarily grunting, moaning or otherwise, I see nothing wrong with it. I am the latter. I literally can't help my bodily response when I am on that failure rep. It also seems to indirectly help me get that weight up. I can't help that I turn beat red on my reps, it's just my bodies response. If you are grunting, banging your fists on your chest like a gorilla THEN, I will personally put you down old yeller! lol

It would be best to have a spotter to take the dumbbells, for me when I'm lifting 100+ dumb bells I usually need one to just get myself set anyway. Its hard to even get in position with that kind of weight.

ya, you're right.........sorry about that....

Well, if your school offers it you can always try to get into some off-season athletics for certain sports. Hell, if it was my school you could get onto the football team and be benched all season (unless you were good enough to not be,) and have daily access to a weight room

Do you have a problem with that?
I was talking about the guys who intentionally drop them from shoulder level, or my personal favorite, the guys who drop them at the top of an incline press. I understand that there are certain lifts that are hard to do without dropping the weights (although a spotter is always best).

Well in that case I definitely see what you are saying, I just think theres a lot of gray area when people say "dropping" weights.

I work harder than half these guys...........

This is the first time I've looked at this thread. Do you think this could be why you are stronger than half these guys?

You're always going to have these people at gyms... These are public places, no? It's like we call 'em lazy slobs if they don't workout, but when they do finally make the effort, they better (even if they are new to working out) know gym etiquette and better workout to the intensity of the vets....and not talk to others. We NEVER did this when first starting out?

If you don't like them hogging up equipment or chatting, walking on the treadmill, then pull out your cajones and let them know.. Who's at fault? Them for not knowing the rules or you for not telling them?

Good point - teach them gym ettiquitte. It might help. There might be a good workout partner found from a new person. If they won't learn, then they probably aren't truly interested and will eventually weed out.

It is good to remember that we were all "newbies" at some time.

As far as intenisty - yes they should put in the same intensity as the vets - or why bother. From my first day lifting, I gave it 100%. Not that my 100% was much, but I did give it all the effort I had to give. My first run, I only made it about 10 steps, couldn't run one more step, so then I walked. They should at least put out the effort - of course they aren't going to lift the weight or the reps of an experienced person, but they should give it all they've got.

Riiight...

of course, it's always the men. I'm sure all of the women are groaning, yelling, and sweating buckets. I'm sure they're pushing it to the max. Oh wait, no they're not, they're using the leg spreader machine and curling 5 pound dumbbells.

I know it's popular to bash on men, but rest assured that the ratio of men who try in the gym is much higher than ratio of women who try in the gym. And just because they're not yelling and sweating, doesn't mean they're not trying.

I don't think you're one to be telling people how intense they should be in the gym. Everyone has their own level that they like to work at, and although you may not agree with it, it doesn't make your routine better than theirs. I know you must feel mighty proud of yourself, seeing as you work so much harder than everyone else. Especially those fat, overweight, lazy men. Great...you can keep it to yourself, we don't need to hear about it.

There are plenty of guys and girls who are trying 10x harder than you, and are lifting weights 10x heavier than yours, so drop the arrogant attitude and just lift.

There are more than plenty who are lifting heavier than I do - even the girls. That is because they are stronger, not because they try harder. If the best you can get is 5 lb dumbell curls - then that is what you should do - but if you are able to do 10 lb, you shouldn't do 3 reps with 5 lb and call it a workout. That was my point - you got to put out the effort. If you aren't trying, why bother? I admire the person who is weaker than me who puts in the effort - I don't admire the person who is stronger than me who is just going through the motions and not putting in any real work. Although there are very few people who are weaker than me, there aren't many who try harder than I do.

It is funny... at the gym I go to most of the men are working their booties off...Grunting up a storm, really giving it their all but it is the women that seem to be there for different reasons.

We have women in Blue jeans, or other attire that is just not gym attire to me anyways...they do not really lift weights to be doing anything. They lift very low weights, do like 5 reps, jump to different machines and just "watch" others workout..

Why even join the gym? Why go and waste time if you are not going to do the workouts right, not going to eat healthy, ect...

Just my opinion anyways..

i'm one of those women, by the way, who show up in attire that isn't considered "proper" - i don't particularly care what i wear, so nobody is surprised if i show up in jeans, tracks with one leg half ripped off, whatever i pick up off the floor that smells halfway decent. when i do weights, i'm LOUD - it's very difficult to push a 400lb incline leg press, a 135lb bench press, or a 160lb v-bar pull-down, and *not* make any noise.

my favourite peeve: the women who, from all over the gym, watch me the entire time as they go through their lacklustre motions - i mean, i didn't even know it was possible to do a bicep curl and NOT have the muscle flex! - and as soon as i'm done, they start snickering about how i'm gonna end up looking like Alice Schwarzenegger even while they're complaining about how much tighter my waist and butt have gotten in a couple of months while they've been working out for YEARS and haven't seen any results ("it's my metabolism").

Traci :
Most women are scared to death to lift heavy. They always say "i dont want to be bulky". Let me tell you how the most beautiful women out there lift heavy weight and get those really great legs and tight ass from LIFTING WEIGHTS.

I do however, love it when women lift in those super short shorts .
