Men @ the Gym
Not to be rude but it looks like some of the guys don't even try hard enough at all, no grunting whatsoever, no pain in the face, no straining with all their might to get that final rep up, not one bead of sweat on the body......
Get real.....
I work harder than half these guys...........

Odd...
The gym I used to go workout at was equal men/women all with pain in their faces just going for that last rep.

Ahhh yes... I forgot about all that New Year stuff. Been so long since I worked out at a gym.
That does refresh my memory though, usually within a month or two it starts getting back to normal with one or two people sticking it out.

Those regulars really keep me going too, for the long haul....its pretty cool to see the same people sticking it out....
As for some of these other guys...well.....not much effort or trying to get through the pain.......
I'm tougher than they are

People have different intensity levels, I dont think its a requirement to go into a gym and have to grunt and go wild. Sure if you're looking to get the most out of your body then you have to exert yourself, but not everyone is that into it. No need to get on people for not working as hard as you.

I wish I could say the same about my gym. Hopefully it will be soon. I kinda feel like an idiot making noise in front of so many freakin people.

I agree with you Amy, I personally think it's not worth it if you aren't going to put 110% of your energy into what you are doing. The New Year resoluters (is that a word? lol) have already started to slump off at my gym like armor's has. It's a smaller family type gym though, I am so glad I'm out of 24/hr fitness... Ughh.. Now get to work!

Blah, why grunt and scream.....? I'm looking to strain my muscles, not my vocal chords.... I honestly can't stand these cats making all that noise and then tossing the weights down when they're done, cause I know it's not at all necessary.... Thankfully, not too many of those around at my gym....
In fact, the only ones grunting at my gym these days are the new year's kids who never lifted a weight before and are trying to do curls with a 100 pound barbell..... Nearly toppling over with the effort of swinging their back and got their eyes popping out of their sockets..... Children.....
But yea, my face distorts something terrible when lifting.... And I'm definitely pushing my muscles to the limit.... I just feel like doing it in silence....

I hope everyone remembers that those of us who are really into this lifestyle now were not born in a gym doing a bench press!
I applaud ANYONE who steps foot into a gym even if it's for a new years resolution. At least they are making the effort. But this type of lifestyle is something you have to work your way in to. Some of those "new years resoluters" will stick with it while most will eventually go back to the house because they do not have the intestinal fortitude to continue. But they will never know until they try. Perhaps, instead of judging people because they are not working as hard as we do in the gym, why don't we be an example for them and work hard in the gym. If we have a good looking body and the results of our work in the gym show on our bodies, they will see how the effort pays off. And I guarantee they will admire the effort you are making. Perhaps our efforts in the gym will either shame them into going back to the house or inspire them to work even harder than they were.
And if you are working harder in the gym than the rest of the guys, take pride in the fact you will have better results than they will. But again, it all depends on personal goals. It's too bad though that people can go to the gym and just because they don't work out as hard as someone else feels they should, that they should be judged. Oh well...to each his own.

I understand what you wrote sonner_ed, however I don't think that was really the point, or at least not what I got out of it.
What I got out of it was that there's a sudden burst in members, which is fine... whatever, it happens. However when you're trying to get your workout in and the 'resoluters' are basically just going through the motions, it gets frustrating. You can almost pick out the ones that aren't going to be there more than a week by their actions.
I don't think being rude to people is the answer, and when I was at the gym I'd make myself as available as possible to do my best to help anyone that needed it, just to make them more comfortable at their new surrounding and to 'know someone'.

Heh, yeah. Its lame sometimes when I'm at a gym and see someone just plodding along on a treadmill like its going to get them anywhere. Sad part is they never change, never get anything done, and end up quitting when a little physical and mental effort would've got the job done and saved a lot of wasted time. They just need someone to push them, sadly if its not someone they know/respect its probably just wasted advice that instead makes them angry though.
My gym really didn't have any "New Years" people...it was closed straight through the damned holidays lol. Since I usually hit it around 1-2 pm its never crowded, though I have had instances where I've gone and some moron takes the bench press or another piece of equipment for over half an hour.

YEp, it's too hard not to put all of your effort into it. It's too much work to get half ass results.
