Near Extinct Exercises

There is one exercise that was mentioned in M&F a while back and it's the reversed grip bench press. Seldom is this ever been seen even in the world of pro bodybuilders. I have only once seen it down my gym. Does anyone know of any others that have nearly died out? I have a de ja vous feeling that I might have talked about this before so please tell me if I have.:

I can't say that I remember seeing this exercise used in the gym recently, but what a great topic!

The back/leg press exercise i mentioned in another post is another lost exercise.

Yeah, you don't see much one arm lifts, though I'm trying to work them into my workouts now. I'm fairly certain I'm the only person in my gym that does any variation of DB pullovers. If there isn't a machine for it, it seems most people skip it.

How about the Olympic split clean & jerk for an "oldie but goodie". I remember seeing photos of Norbert Schemansky (spelling ??) perhaps the last of the great split cleaners in a split so low it would make your knees ache.

Pullovers...yes they will draw attention when you do them! I love the muscles they hit and remember them being promoted as a good way to develop a V- shape and the serratus. (They are also good for pulling your shoulders out of their sockets)

I like doing them them on the gym ball now. Whatever happened to the good exercises that you really shouldn't do 4 rep maxs at? I mean the ones that are good for stablizers and joint strength.

Well, the squat has gone by the wayside -- At my gym, anyway. I've seen like three other people besides me squatting.

OK, seriously. I saw someone reverse curling yesterday. That's becoming a rarity.

At my gym, anyting that's an arm exercise is popular so I see reverse curls all the time. Good mornings are another one that I've never seen a single other person in the gym do. No members, trainers, not even my training partner who is the only one who squats with me.

know what you mean Klinger about the rarity of the reverse curl as I am one of the few who performs them. At the moment I do reverse cable curls and they are brill.

I haven't seen anyone doing those calf raises with people sitting across their back, I think they were called donkey calf raises. I don't see anyone using those harnesses that went on the persons head and then attached to a cable to exercise the neck, I wonder why those went to the wayside.
