OW! My shoulder/neck/back...

So I was doing neck extentions...or whatever their called. But the machine is ridiculously easy so I just kept piling on weight until I actually felt some resistance. The other day I did 170 on it and it was fine. Today...I did 180. I did like 3 sets and went to do my 4th..and I felt a rip...and all of a sudden. I dcouldnt move. If I move my neck or right shoulder at all, it hurts like crazy! It sucks
All I know to do is ice it. But when it comes to crunch time on monday...wut am I going to do...ill go crazy if i miss a workout within the next two months....I just hope its not too serious...But it hurts! lol

neck extensions!? never heard of them.

sounds to me like you might've turned your head to the side with the load engaged - prime way to strain a trap. ibuprofen and massage, bag of frozen peas.

That is a bit of bad luck. Lifting heavy will do that to a person.

You'll have to see how you feel. Come Monday, do whatever exercises you can that won't aggravate it.

Yeah...the neck isn't really something you should mess around with. If you do wish to continue the neck extensions (??) in the future, keep it controlled and at a set weight.

As for letting it heal...your shoulder exercises might be out of commission for a week or two. As for abs...you can do any kind of leg raises, laying, incline, hanging, etc.

Okay, well...over the weekend I just took it easy and iced it. Felt a little better today. So I went on the extenstion machine again and just did very very light weight, to kinda work it loose a bit, and I was able to do it without too much discomfort so it should be could within a couple days hopefully. Meanwhile I'll just stick clear of shrugs and cleans.

It's an interesting excercise...I use to hate them, but I did three sets of eight on each side with 170 not too long ago, and when I was done my neck had doubled in size it seemed like.

Before going heavy with it again, a trip to the chiropractor might be in order. Just find one that really knows what he/she is doing. It is so easy to injure the cervical arteries when manipulating the neck. The techniques they do - don't actaully do that much for the spine - but they do relieve muscle spasms - and help prevent adhesions when things heal. They might actually help a small herniation too.
