Could possibly be a heel spur, which I believe is a mineral deposit on the bone...My dad had one and he could barely walk....you can receieve a prescription which somehow helps with the spur....not sure if it dissolves or what it does, but it somehow helps...

You may also have a bruised heel or a possible stress fracture...I would head to the doctor and see what he refers....good luck and hope you get a speedy recovery....

I don't think shin splints would effect his heel....my wife had them fairly bad this spring and had to go to physical therapy to get them aggresively massaged out....the pain was in the front of her shin...the entire length of her lower leg....Ouch

Shin splints are usually caused by running on hard surfaces like asphalt/roads. Your pain should be less when you run on soft grass or an all-weather track. Shin splints I believe is when the calf muscle detaches slightly from the bone and rattles around. This is why you might see some athletes tape up their shins, to keep it from moving.

Could very well be Plantar Fasciitis. Not fun! You should see a podiatrist/Chiropodist and stop running right away. Here is a site that discusses heel spurs and plantar fasciitis.

Yes, shin splints are normally caused from running on a hard surface....My wife started getting them on a treadmill and switched to the elipitical....it helped for sure...It is something caused from an injury to the muscke that runs acroos the shin and is connected to the calf muscle....

The muscle affected is the one exercised when you pull you toes up....

hey have you got a decent rair of running shoes.
If not go to a sports shoe store and get a treadmill analysis and see if your feet pronate like mine do. Maybve the pain in your heal is due to this like mine were.

P.s i had shin splints all the time for 2 years!!!
