Question

Question about intense squats

I know leg day is supposed to be the most intense day. Everytime after I do my 2 or 3 sets of intense squats, I feel disorientated, and feel like I'm gonna pass out. Is that something everyone experiences? Squats are so damned hard on the body. Sometimes it can be quite frustrating, because I'm usually way too tired to do my cool-down. Is there any way past this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you're going heavy it's gotta make you feel that way.

I get the lightheaded feel usually in deadlifts if my pull is too slow, not as much in squats.

Very normal mate. Luckily at my gym the squat rack is near the door. lol
Seriously, I've found that taking a longer rest between sets approx 3 mins helps reduce that "feeling". Walking around, sipping water, fresh air, etc all work well.
Make sure your form/technique is solid eg head too high?, back rounded?, feet too narrow? etc Sometimes when really pressing hard you may lose form, putting inappropriate stress and strain on your body accelerating fatigue and bringing on that breathless state early.

Not too long ago I did in fact pass out doing squats. They're hard and the only way they'll get easier is if you put less into them. Sorry, no one said this stuff was easy.

Yeah man, if they are hard - you are probably doing them right. Sometimes I puke after 3 sets of squats - and I can't even go that heavy yet.

Sometimes I'll start "seeing stars" after working with the heavier weights.

Thanks for the reassurance everyone. : I was starting to wonder, because every single time I feel like this: disorientated, having trouble focusing, out of breath, and extreme fatigue. I do have correct technique. This is just the way everyone feels after heavy squats. I guess it's true when they say: "no pain, no gain." :

Have to agree with the rest of the posters.... I am usually disorientated for the majority of my leg workouts. In my own world, focused on nothing but catching my breath between sets, enduring the pain and watching my legs swell up huge as the workout goes on. Gotta love it!

I know you love leg days. I remember reading your article back in the day about how tough leg day is. Your legs are kickass, so you do everything right. :
