Question

Saving muscle routine in duress

Lately I've had an apartment complex remodeling job that keeps me out for a 12+ hr. workday and I haven't been able to get in my workouts. (I'm also doing the mudwork and odd skillwork) I had an old idea to try and stop losing weight and keep some muscle. I figured I could do at least one exersize a night for a few sets, focusing mostly on compounds. Here is what has happened so far:

After a two week deload, I did 3 HST workouts, just barely getting started in the 15's. Then missed five days past the last workout due to work.
Next, came the idea.:

Night one:
Deads, 245x12 245x15
Shrugs, 350x15x2
Night two:
Overhead Presses, 95x15 100x15x2 (I'm rehabbing a shoulder)
T-bar rows 135x15 160x12 160x10

Tonight I'm just shot from work. The rest of the exersizes I want to use as I can feel up to it are:
Wide dips
weighted pullups
Squats

I'm open to suggestions.

Squat, deadlift, chin-up, dip, bench, row. The rest is secondary.

Dude, OLAD is your answer. Difficult, brutal, heavy, effective. One lift each day. I'll do some searching and post the link to it.

MostMuscle told me about it and I was truly impressed. I wasn't man enough to stick with it beyond one training cycle, but wow it was great.

Here it is.

Testosterone Nation - The One Lift a Day Program

I think MostMuscle did the "wave" approach described in the article with some good results.

I did it with straight sets but that way will definitely make you miss work.

If I were to do it again, I would do it with ramped sets similar to how you and I did with 5x5, although your 5x5 was a bit more advanced than mine, the basic methods were similar.

You'll have to decide the lifts that are most important to you and what will give you the best results.

I like squats, deads, bench, row (or pullups), and overhead press. That will pretty much not miss any body parts through the week.

The reccomended rest days and the reccomended short training cycle with the time off...they were not joking.

Need a fast workout that will give some results - this one will do it.

Hmmm, you know if someone knew the olympic lifts - this would probably be pretty good for those too.

I may do this again for some extra strength after my next training cycle ends. When I'm hobbling around, I'm gonna look south and think of you with a frown because your question reminded me of it.

Interesting but a bit too much for me right now. I'll be doing it with less sets, until I feel better. We're in a big push, covered up with jobs, after a winter with no jobs.

Then consider it with less volume. Really anything is going to help. Work's gotta come first right now.
