Soft muscles...?

Hey,this is my first time posting in quite some time and it's good to be back. For those who may not remember me I will give a quick stat update. I am 20 years old, 6 feet tall, 165 pounds, and roughly 5 percent body fat. I am wondering why my muscles are more soft and squishy then hard and firm. My muscles feel pretty tight after an intense arm workout, however in a flacid state they feel rather lackluster. I know several dudes my age that have a similar physique that have a more consistent firm muscle all the time. What is it that is causing my muscles to be soft? Is it the food I eat? The amount of water I drink? My genetics? Any feedback is welcome. Thanks!

It's the post workout pump. Everyone gets that. It's not that they are soft most of the time. They are hard when flexed, right? But after lifting, you get a pump that makes them firmer. It's normal, nothing to worry about.

No, it is not the post work out pump that I am concerned about. I understand how the body works and that the muscles are tense and increased blood flow into the muscles causes them to be firm. I dont understand how or why my muscles feel so soft. Some peoples arms feel harder then mine a non workout day then me on a workout day.

Hi SCV2004, It's been a while since I've posted on here as well, but I might be able to answer your question about muscle softness. It's all about flexing them. My biceps in particular used to be soft and it was only when I started flexing between sets did I achieve those rock hard muscles. Try it, you might find it helps. Good Luck!

No, I do not do high rep exercises hardly at all. I am pretty strong and keep good form, but I just can't get them to feel firm. Even when I flex them it feels like I can still push down on the peak bicep muscle.

And Darklord, I do flex inbetween sets is the funny part. It is good for the muscles because it keeps blood flowing and keeps the muscle loose. This is really puzzling me.

What's your diet like? Maybe that might have something to do with "soft" muscles.
