Squats and Leg Ext...

The leg Extension works out the quads(only) and squats work out the quads(also other things) so I am asking if it would be pointless to do both for my leg exersices?

not pointless. you might try starting your routine with squats and when you cant do another set, go to leg extensions to finish off your quads.

I know a few lifters who do the opposite: pre-exhaust the quads with extensions and then move on to squats. It works for some, not all.

If you need to drop one, drop the extensions and keep the squats. They work not just the quads but the hams, calves, hip flexors and abdominals.

EDIT: Squats also work the lower back and obliques.

I used to do both. But I eventually dropped the extensions because I didn't feel that I needed them. It's up to you whether you want the extra work on the quads....if you really want to build them up then keep them both.

Squats>leg extensions in all respects (including safety).

I think that's about all you need to know to realize you must: Do squats before you do leg extensions, while your legs are fresh and you can benefit the most from slamming them hard. And you can dump the leg extensions altogether if you want -- the last 30 degrees to the "resting" point on leg extensions is hell on your knees. If you're predisposed to that sort of problem, dump them entirely. If you want to target the inner head of your quads more effectively, do front squats instead, right after the good ol' reliable back squats.

I've always had better results with squats than leg extensions. I have bad knees and with squats I felt more comfortable and stable than with extensions (those just plain hurt).
