Strained Rotor Cuff

Yesterday I was performing lateral raises and partial lateral raises. Unfortunately I also discovered when I got home that I had strained my shoulder region right by the rear deltoid region towards the joint. This is very rare for me to have an injury due to good form and proper warming up. The only reason I have this is beause the sodding gym owners don't put heating on frequently enough and it's only a few degrees above freezing in there. Is is what I've being saying about training in a cold environment. It's very hard to get warmed up properly as the muscles are still cold to the core even after several exercises. Take note people of wearing many thin layers and stretch and warm up thoroughly enough. This is definately the time of year for injuries. I take it most of you have heated gyms, and don't give me any bull about it's supposed to toughen you up and you should be hard to it. Anyone who says that is a moron. lol.

i walked to the gym in my tee-shirt and it still took me only five sets to get completely warmed up.

Just got to keep doing enough to warm those muscles up properly. I have no heat whatsoever in my gym. Sometimes my plates have ice on them. Sometimes my hands freeze to the bar. It does take longer to get warmed up when the temp is at or below freezing though.

My gym is cold in the morning due to the heat being off or turned down during the night, however I lift in the evenings so its plenty warm in there by then. Warming up is crucial as well as proper stretching, but dont overstretch for that can cause injury as well.

I love the outdoor winter training, on saturday I had a good heavy hard session outside in the snow, I could see my breath and everything, training in the cold and the extreme heat does toughen one up and make them harder, be careful and warm-up right, BTW........I am a moron!!!

got some questions here Darklord

what is perfect form?/using only the shoulders to lift this weight?
do you do this every single week?

Perhaps the word perfect is a bit over the top, I should say good form. Good form is going by the book and not cheating or swinging movements. I work my shoulders once per week as every body part.

my bad Dark, you did use the word "good" form, but I know how bb'ers think sometimes (as I used to think the same).

do you think that by not using other parts of the body in this lift your putting your shoulders in danger, I mean to lift a weight up the side like that using the shoulder only? sounds bad to me? and to do it everyweek along with other shoulder exercises????

I'm not quite sure what you mean Luke but I was performing lateral raises ( not first) in my workout after lots of dumbbell pressing and you only notice the pain that following day or if not after. It might not be even a strained rotaor cuff but it is definately along that area of the bone , well you know what I mean. And GOOD form is always my number one principle. People down my gym have many time stated on my good form.

Hey DarkLord, sometimes I get similar pain in the joint kind of like the one you are describing. Good thing I do back the day after shoulders. Some good heavy deadlifts stretch it right out and the shoulder pain goes away.

Perhaps you could give that a try??

Maybe you already do. How is it feeling now?

still haven't a clue what you're on about mate, but I will tell that injuries for me are very rare and I start my shoulder workout with shoulder pressing THEN lateral raises. Yes I do also blame cold weather !!!!!
