Question

StretchMK versus Bear

Hey guys, my workout partner and I got into this situation and I was wondering what you guys think. Here is the scenario.

Background information:

StretchMK: 150 lbs. Current Bench Max 250. Work out about 5 times a week, (1 x back, 1 x shoulder, 1.5 x arms, 1.5 x chest, 1.5 x leg + lower back per week) All workout performed at the gym (MAX-ing on each day, not on each exercise, but at least max-ing on one or two of the exercises. well, at least try to push as hard as He could)

Bear: 185 lbs. Current Bench Max about 200. Work out 2-3 times at the gym per week. (chest, back and bicep) Maxing out on both day. Work out at home sometimes during the week using lighter weight on shoulder and tri.

Ok, StretchMk and Bear have a bet about who is going to have a higher bench Max by the end of this year, here is the question: Even thou StretchMk has a more intense and more well-around routine than Bear, Bear definitely has the weight advantage on Stretch, does Stretch has a chance to win this bet?

If so, what does he have to do?

Eat and lift. If you have a 50 pound advantage and nasty supplements are out of the question, you just need to keep fueling the fire and pushing hard in all your workouts with strength as your focus. It will get tough if you are afraid to grow. 185 compared to 150 doesn't mean a lot either, I mean, we don't know the quality of those pounds. You may have the same amount of lean muscle mass for all we know.

You can do it Stretch! You already got em beat, just keep that lead. Eat like a machine and lift HARD! REALLY HARD!

You are ahead, all you've got to do is stay there.

Go get him.

I'll have to go with the Bear just because of the name and it seems maybe he is basing his workouts to increase his bench. I'm sure both of you will make big gains, competition is a great motivator. Good luck to both of you.

Dont think he will make it with that workout Would not be surprise if he creates such a biomechanical imbalance he injures himself

thanks guys.

but the way i see it is this:
Stretch is doing an all around work-out trying to get stronger all together in all different body parts. Bear, on the other hand, is definitely getting more rest time for the muscle to grow and focusing only on his chest (and biceps). If both of them are eating right and sleeping right, I want to see if getting a lot of rest and only focusing on one part will beat pounding hard all around the body, I always thought that a well-around rountine would work better since you will need your shoulder and back (and legs... etc) to get stronger along with chest. I am second-guessing my belief now because Bear has been showing huge growth on strength (20 lbs per 2-3 weeks) meanwhile I am getting about 5 lbs. Also, on our chest day, he always says that he is feeling great because the body is well rested, and at the mean time, I have to fight thru the soreness of my other body parts when I push my max. so........

please someone tell me that a well-around rontine is still worth it......

thanks a lot.

The well rounded routine will pay off much more. For example if you do squats on leg day and deadlifts on back day - those are two MAJOR causes of your natural GH and test levels to rise. Guess what happens then? That's right, when you go to sleep and rest after leg day or back day - everything grows a little and gets a little stronger.

Besides wouldn't you look like a real goof with a big chest and big arms with tiny little legs and a weak back that is being pulled the wrong way by saggy flabby abs.

You'd look like a cross between a sway backed mule and johnny bravo.

Of course before we laugh too hard, I have to remember that I look like a swaybacked mule riding a chicken. Not from lack of leg training though...just from lack of leg results.

You do not!

Trust me, you look nothing like "chicken legs" at my gym as I call him.
