Question

T Bar Preference

Which is the most effective T Bar to from the one where you lie forward on the bench, to the free standing T Bar?

I've only used a home made free standing one. It worked great. Not as good as BOR's though - but safer.

I would imagine though it would depend on your goals. If your goal requires strict isolation instead of more weight - the one with the bench would be better. If your goal allows some upper body movement to get more weight, then the freestanding would probably be better. This is totally a guess on my part since I've never used one with a bench.

As I always say to these types of questions, use all variations.

there's nothing more squirmish than seeing people foolishly performing T Bar rows by standing upright with straight knees and a slighlty rounded back with far too much weight. Ohhhhh, it sends shivers down my spine.

*Everyone* at my gym does that, even the girls. Then there's me bending right over with the straight back and the puny weight....

This is basically what I do except that the squat rack at my gym has a nifty little place to stick the bar.

I wedge a towel in the corner of my basement and jam the end of the bar into it. Load up the other end, grab the bar with an overhand pronated grip and go to town. Simple but effective.

works great but add enough weight and the center of gravity is in front of your hands and it doesn't work any more.
